I wish I understood #1 back when I was looking for jobs at cons. I remember seeing my peers fill up entire trading card binders full of business cards and figuring that was the mindset I needed to have. What we really needed to do was make friends with people.
SO, you want to network but don't know where to begin.
1. DON'T. Make friends instead
2. It's not about what they can do for you
3. Famous people are just people first
4. If you do have to gush, don't just say 'i love your work' , pick one thing and say why. Open ended compliments are awkward

Funny animal videos no longer being trustworthy just fucking sucks all around. I love the wonder of animal behavior and what it says about the experience of being alive. It's because it happened in reality that it's so fun. It's not fun if it was just made up. There's no wonder there.

Someone needs to normalize indie devs charging more for their games. Silksong was so cheap I bought it on two different platforms.
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course took the devs 4 years to make and has some of the most gorgeous animation I've ever seen in a game and they charged 8 DOLLARS for it.

Breakdown of where the money you pay for a game on Steam goes:
- 30% goes to Valve, right off the top.
- The remaining 70% goes to the publisher, and is split with the developer based on their contract. Usually the publisher will want to recoup their investment before paying the devs.

If you didn't know, between Steam's cut, taxes, and company profit splits, I get maybe 25 cents per unit sold of Eldritch at this price. And that's fine, it's a game I made in another lifetime, I'm just happy if anyone is still enjoying it in the year of our Lord 2025. But yeah. Games is hard.

It gets exhausting watching people race to find the worst takes from the most hateful people about things they ostensibly like. I want to see your genuine feelings about something, don't hide your excitement or disappointment behind screenshots of the most obnoxious bigot you could find crashing out
I don't know, man. I'm broadly out of touch with considering the "fanbase" of anything when evaluating a work anymore. I'm sure you can find a collective of fans for anything who are annoying or awful, but they're not in the room with me and I'm not going to go looking for them.
