Bubble Bubble, Toil and Trouble...
This is me fulfilling a "I want to make that" kind of aspiration when I started with Blender earlier this year: A bubbling cauldron of some kind.
My first attempt was a polygonal horror show.

Flaming skull thing. This started as 'I wonder how well I can make model a skull without reference images?'
At which point I used an old fire effect and meta-balls in a particle system for smoke. Pretty satisfied with the outcome.
