I just realised on my computer the organisation of the images seems different so to be clear I mean the Beyond the metrics picture.

I like the final picture. The second is too detailed and the main messages get lost.

I saw the news and immediately thought of you. I honestly can't see what this platform added beyond threatening UK researchers.

That is so weird! And also really interesting. I bet there are other systems that will show similar behaviour, we just have to go looking.

The longer I’ve been an academic the more I’ve come to realise that too many exams are lessons in memory rather than understanding.

I think this says more about the generally high fees than it necessarily does about the quality of the education they receive.

I also wonder how much the recent attacks on HE in the US are influencing the conversation?

The thing that worries me most is that if this is judged a success, by whatever criteria, somewhere like Thailand will introduce it without the robust pushback the UK is likely to see.

That may be true now, but I expect that things will change over time. Now that people can feel that Brexit is making them poorer, they may find they will be willing to consider other options. If that happens, the politicians will move too.

I remain optimistic. We will likely need to start with something like the customs union. If implemented, it may turn out to be a compromise most can live with.
