I've played about a quarter of it. I set the whole thing up, did the rule talk, and then the person I was playing with got sick about an hour in and we couldn't play. But even those first impressions were great! I'd recommend watching a tutorial and doing a solo, but its 100% worth the time

A big thing that keeps my collection smaller than a lot of other board game enthusiasts is that I'm not a fan of tie-in stuff. Stuff like Star Wars, LotR, and GoT have a tonne of themed content, and even if the games are solid, they just aren't my cup of tea. No shade though! That looks awesome!

So I guess if those are the parameters, I'm taking out first place because I figure I can still get it myself. But if its a lower point total game I'm not targeting anyone. Just gonna tinker and see what works

Well are we talking about a point salad where the winning score is like 100+ points and 5-10 is an achievable gap, or something where 20 is a winning score and you're not gonna catch up no matter how hard you try?

Generally neither, if I'm being honest. I just accept that I'm gonna lose and maybe try out one or two new things for my next playthrough

Thats incredibly fair. I was thinking the term "gateway game" meant something that wasnt Monopoly and had a few more rules than Risk, and Agricola didnt really fit that image. But you're right, I suppose anything could be a gateway
