Shame more football teams don't think so

Make every match like an FA Cup 3rd Rd tie

Imagine them lot lined up at lunchtime and you've got first pick.....

Exactly the sort of situation where the referee needs to play dumb, but also ensure the safety of all players

"Minteh clearly has a severe injury to the head, I'm not comfortable with him continuing to play, you'll have to substitute him"

Best way to remove all forms of play acting

Has Casey kidnapped him??

All that time hanging with Kevin Smith made him think that rolling cameos were a thing behind the camera as well as in front

Also a little awkward so soon after Deadpool references

When footballing royalty like (checks notes) Israel gets involved it clearly very difficult to argue against

Just in between the two have the rules for inter university games as agreed in 1856
November 23, 2024 at 12:30 PM
And I'd completely agree with you

It's part of the reason that the current ruleset needs a full root and branch review rather than the constant edits it currently has

Hopefully I'll have something to share in that regard around the season end, or maybe the year end

True, but it was always an aim of Blatter, and Havelange before him that the game should be as accessible as possible. That's how they managed to grow the game so far into Africa, and Asia. Having the game on the telly being so similar to the game on the user was a big mover there
November 20, 2024 at 11:46 AM
The second shouldn't be a consideration especially in the presence of the first issue, but that is a reality of the game in it's current state. Dealing with what we want things to be rather than what they are is a fool's errand, to paraphrase Machiavelli

I feel like I'm just pissing on your chips here, sorry, but my tag is GRUMPY referee

Two problems, first it makes the game different at different levels, genie out of bottle there with VAR affecting the way games are played and officiated; secondly long added minutes mess up TV & advert scheduling
November 20, 2024 at 11:37 AM
I think the idea is fine, the implementation though....

It was made public a while ago much time was added for certain incidents. We've all seen players/pundits claim the added time board is gospel and must be a minimum

Much prefer us to just trust refs, not create more things to beat them with
November 20, 2024 at 11:25 AM
These were always unwritten guidelines for how much to add based on averages

But we all know a full team scrap that ends in two yellows, is still a longer stoppage than a tackle so late/high the offender is walking before you've even blown your whistle
November 20, 2024 at 11:21 AM
It's a shame that these have been quantified though, it creates an expectation, and prevents refs from using common sense

I miss the days when my linesman would run his watch when ball was dead, then around 42 minutes would show me 1-5 fingers on their thigh when signalling for something else
November 20, 2024 at 11:19 AM
Too black and white

We already almost have that, with the delay before instead can return to the pitch

Players will still roll around, but physios well be very slow to react

Let referees apply nuance, common sense, and occasionally a little shithousery
November 20, 2024 at 10:56 AM
Some pretty easy fixes are possible but certainly wouldn't be liked

As a referee, player safety is one of the top concerns. I'm afraid that if I see a player rolling around clearly in pain and likely seriously injured, then it's irresponsible for me let them continue

Forced substitution

Surely there's also enough footage out there of James Alexander Gordon that we can do a deepfake voiceover as well

Pretty please

Sorry, I'm making more work

But you know you want it too
