I wrote about just a few of the ways that artists are showing up to get ICE out of MPLS over at @racketmn.com. Here's the link: racketmn.com/how-can-artists-show-up-for-minneapolis

Beyond my piece, a shout out to Racket in general for their bold, vital work reporting from the frontlines here in MN.

Many thanks to those who came to our Monarca/UNIDOS fundraiser at @loftliterarycenter.bsky.social. If you missed it, donate to their vital work (observer trainings, family support, much more): givemn.org/donate/Navigatemn - link has yet another name, but it's right; just rebranding over the years.

Some zines are deep artistic statements, and some zines are "here are the specific resources I really want to share with my community right now, this week." Online version: guante.info/try

I'll be sharing these at the MONARCA fundraiser tonight: 6pm at the Loft Lit Center (Open Book, 2nd floor).

MN friends: this Tuesday, January 20, I'll be joining @shannongibney.bsky.social and @sunyungshin.bsky.social over at @loftliterarycenter.bsky.social for a fundraiser for MONARCA, who have been doing so much good here.

Art can raise money, art can raise morale. We'll do both here:

I know our conversation at this week's "what can artists do?" event was 90% focused on actions *beyond* our actual art - fundraising, signal-boosting, etc. (here are the notes: guante.info/what-can-artists-do)...

But like, you still have to make the art. If only for yourself. Here's a poem I wrote.

Before people yell at me, I know not everyone is trying to be "helpful" with their posting. Some are just letting off steam or voicing their truths or whatever. But what we choose to share during a crisis can have ripple effects.

"Because our voices aren’t the only things that matter, but they do matter. Because no single poem, song or story will be the magic spell that makes everything better… and because we can all contribute something anyway."

"The targeting of vulnerable populations has revived the organizing principle that 'an injury to one is an injury to all,' sparking solidarity, not submission."

I'm proud to have one of my songs quoted in the new @douglas.generationmars.space book, the fourth in a series that is "an optimistic, near-future, hard science fiction series for kids."

Especially for parents and educators, find more about the series here: generationmars.space/about/book-s...

An evergreen connection between poetry and activism:

Big changes can start with *small* actions: that tiny choice to show up to a training, wear a button, post online, wear a whistle as a necklace, stuff that is too easy to cynically write off as performative. Every small action opens a door.

My favorite genre of selfie. Spent monday teaching poetry classes at a high school, then tuesday facilitating a bunch of zine workshops at uw-eau claire.

Bring me to your school, college, conference, org meeting, festival, church, basement, spaceship, poetry slam, or whatever: guante.info/booking

Looking forward to this. Just reposting the flyer here with alt-text added in case that can be useful for future promo; thanks again for the invitation!

Especially for friends and neighbors here in Minnesota: a call to proactively, intentionally, consistently show up for the kind of culture work + youth work + future-focused work that TruArtSpeaks does.

Please join me in donating before 11/20 to help get the 4x match: www.truartspeaks.org/donation

From basic skill-building stuff like public speaking, social media, and facilitation/program design, to deeper dives into integrating arts and culture into movement work, these are all workshops I've facilitated for other groups and would be down to bring to yours: guante.info/workshops

Between local food shelves, mutual aid networks, plus the ongoing work to dismantle the system that creates hunger in the first place, there's lots to support right now.

Just one option: @utranmyhre.bsky.social and I are gathering contributions here: teamfeed.feedingamerica.org/participants...

My assumption is that the reference here is unbelievably niche (though not for designer @utranmyhre.bsky.social), but also that the sentiment is true even if you don't get the joke.

Let's keep this fundraiser moving: teamfeed.feedingamerica.org/participants...

It's been cool to see the Fateh/Davis/Hampton campaigns focused on positive messaging and lifting each other up, but it's ALSO good to remember and affirm why it's time for change: www.jacobfreyfacts.com

...I'll add on to this what I wrote the day after performing at the June No Kings march here in MN. The focus in mine is less on macro-scale movement stuff and more on sharing some ideas for individuals wondering "how can I do more?"

In the endless battle over narrative, this image shows: resistance isn’t just a deep blue city thing; people everywhere are showing up and pushing back.

Thanks @norsoco.bsky.social. (I’m just reposting their original but with alt-text).
