Disruptive innovations are more than just the tech and the use case. Without a clear business case it is still just money down the drain while a entrant with a clear idea of the new market, a new customer base, can still overtake the incumbents.

Funny thing about this is, as CC actually mentions (even though I am not a huge believer in the generalisability of his findings), that just because you spend the money and do the innovation doesn't mean you succeed in creating the market...
