That sounds like it’s full of fun drama and interesting misunderstandings, though!
gunsmile.bsky.social
That does sound like an ordeal and a half. 😅 At present, there are no aliens in my space fantasy, only humans, and learning foreign languages is a small part of the overall plot, so I don't need something as powerful as an implant. But it's definitely a cool idea.
gunsmile.bsky.social
I'm so excited to read this one day! Hopefully soon!

It's a slow day at work, too, so I have plenty of time to brainstorm ideas ideas in a notebook. But unless I type them up in my organized way, I have trouble seeing connections as clearly.
gunsmile.bsky.social
Agreed. I always wish these ideas came to me fully formed in the beginning, but that’s never the case, is it?
gunsmile.bsky.social
At this point, it’s way more of a background detail, but who knows… It may end up being plot-relevant in ways I haven’t considered yet.
gunsmile.bsky.social
That’s a good point. I don’t have a good reason for the tech *not* to exist.
gunsmile.bsky.social
I feel the rules are a bit awkward in this regard, but oh well. Not my event.
gunsmile.bsky.social
I’ve been plotting without them in mind, but I also don’t think they’d affect the plot if I included them. I suppose I could write the first draft with them and see what happens?

and once again, more commissions 👏

I also need to decide if characters in SpaceWIP have… well, basically, smartphones. Some kind of personal, portable device for sending/receiving messages, browsing their version of the Internet, etc. Many sci-fi/science fantasy stories have something like this, but not all. I’m so undecided.

I'm currently on the third pass of plotting for SpaceWIP Book 1, Act 2 and finally feeling like I have some solid ideas for how to transition from Act 2 to 3. If only I wasn't in the office for my day job so I could type all this up! 😭 #WritingCommunity #AmWriting

I have been trying and struggling to find writers I want to follow and engage with on Instagram, whereas it was so easy on Bluesky. It makes me want to use IG less and less. It is so easy to interact with others and make posts on Bluesky in comparison.

Browsing past pitch events helped me immensely with writing my own pitches at the end of last year/early this year. The community is such a deep well of resources.

YESSSS THIS SONG!!!
gunsmile.bsky.social
This is such a mood.
gunsmile.bsky.social
I have a whole playlist of songs for Daemrin, the MMC of SpaceWIP, but if I had to pick just one, it would be "Adrenaline" by Shinedown. It's the opener for the playlist because it captures his personality pretty well. #WritingLifeMonthly

I don’t mean to alarm anyone but my book GRIM PORTENTS releases in less than 24 hours!!!

Available on my personal website: www.christianakins.com/grimportents

Or you can search for it anywhere books are sold. Seriously! Isn’t that cool?

Grim Portents banner ad featuring a skeleton hand holding a feather and emerging from an open book. The title is on a burning banner that envelops the feather and a large beast looms over it all. At the top, the tagline reads: Welcome to the first day of the end of your life…

Daemrin's got a host of issues he's grappling with, but that's a topic for a later prompt day.
gunsmile.bsky.social
Lex also can't marry Daemrin until she's fully integrated into Katorgan society. Not only does she have to overcome her unfamiliarity with a foreign culture and customs, a strange religion, a new language, etc., but she has to grapple with homesickness, loneliness, missing her family, and trauma.
gunsmile.bsky.social
The Trial of Succession is the biggest thing in both Lex and Daemrin's way. She wants to hire the Katorgans as her army to stop her father, but they cannot mobilize until the Trial is over. Daemrin, of course, wants to win the Trial, but the challenges are designed to test his limit. #PlotTober

#PlotTober Day 8: Conflicts for the MC

Answer the prompt on the card by quoting this post. Remember, answering a prompt is always optional. Even if you don't share it publicly, I hope the prompt encourages you to think about it privately.

8. What are some potential reasons the main character(s) haven't, couldn't, and/or can't pursue these goals yet? Consider other characters, backstory events, circumstances, environmental factors, etc.

Remember: Use the #PlotTober hashtag, engage with others, and have fun!

Whew, this is a lot! You’ve thought this through quite a bit. It’s great to see. 🤩
gunsmile.bsky.social
You can answer the prompt both ways. The inciting incident is the first hint to the protagonist that something is different and wrong, but it doesn’t affect them quite yet. They might resist it, be persuaded from pursuing it, etc.
