KCOP-3 is showing Basil Rathbone's Sherlock Holmes films all day. (Currently he is fighting Nazis, which seems all too apropos.)

The Val Lewtons are a little too early (1940s), though I love them so much! But yes, giant ants and pod people and teenage werewolves!

I met Lara Parker in grad school, and we became friends, which is the whole reason I got into Dark Shadows! I miss her a lot.

Night of Dark Shadows is maybe more successful as a movie, because it doesn't try to duplicate storylines from the soap. (Though a lot of footage got edited out.) It lacks Jonathan Frid but benefits from Lara Parker's dynamic presence.

There is a gleeful element to House of Dark Shadows, in which Dan Curtis gets to kill off almost the entire cast of characters (something impossible to achieve on a soap opera). When I saw the film in a theater some years ago, someone booed when Barnabas got killed, and we all laughed.
