I think the most convincing technique can vary based on what they are trying to convince you of. The credibility principle is more convincing when it is health or politics related. But for clothing or other smaller products the likability and social proof methods work well for me #UWJ201 #302

In lecture there was a graph I found really helpful. It showed people with more things to think about are more satisfied when they don’t process as deeply (ie peripheral route) but when there are less things to think about people who process deeper (ie central route) are more satisfied #UWJ201 #302

They decide what is important enough to be newsworthy and if something doesn’t make the news then so many less people spend time thinking about it. This begs the question: what topics are being over looked in our world because journalists don’t think it’s newsworthy? #UWJ201 #302

As mentioned people speak out when they don’t perceive a risk of social isolation or when they feel the minority view is gaining traction. While there are times we defy the spiral of silence and speak out w/o these conditions I’m unsure of any situations this happens consistently in. #UWJ201 #302

I most often see fact checking in the form of stitches on TikTok. But so frequently it’s a fact check about a video of misinformation I had not previously seen. I don’t feel like videos I see with misinformation usually come back to me once it’s corrected #UWJ201 #302

Do you believe this could relate to sort of victim mentality in a way? #UWJ201 #302

I also found this super fascinating. I never realized that the companies only pay when customers click. I’m curious who benefits the most from this form of advertising. Search engines getting paid without much work or the companies who potentially get free publicity? #UWJ201 #302

I think some personal assessment is needed. Like how in lecture we discussed that certain factors matter more to some people. Similarly, some medias might be more negative to some people. So identifying those and cutting them out as much as possible while keeping the good is a solution #UWJ201 #302

I think it could be extremely beneficial to combat this at the media level, however I don’t know if it is entirely feasible. There will always be some media with it. So I think educating people at the same time can give people the tools they need to make the right choices for themselves #UWJ201 #302

I believe this is a really important thing for us to consider, especially as many of us will one day be parents who have the ability to influence what our children watch. But this begs the questions: is it ethical for parents to filter their kids’ media based on their own worldviews? #UWJ201 #302

Then again Black Friday leads up to Christmas so would the need to buy gifts outweigh people’s logic/reasoning when it comes to savings? For example the girls in my family make a trip out of Black Friday shopping for Christmas presents because it’s just an excuse to get away. #UWJ201 #302

This is a really great question! I’m not sure if companies would lose customers overall but they would definitely lose major sales during Black Friday if customers realized they weren’t actually saving anything #UWJ201 #302

I think could definitely be related. As talked about in “Attention as a Valuable Resource” by Natalie Stroud attention is a fixed resource thus creating competition. And since attention creates profits and recognition people don’t care if they have to spread false information to get it #UWJ201 #302

Yes, I love ads that are memorable and out of the box! Although, before today, I had never thought about the fact that ads may be too clever and forget to let the viewers know what company/product they’re actually advertising. It’s something I will pay more attention to now #UWJ201 #section302

I found this topic disturbing. There are so many ongoing issues occurring all over that aren’t being reported on because they are “old news”. But unfortunately they just don’t seem to hold people’s attention. I sometimes wonder if it’s because we become desensitized to them. #UWJ201 #section302

Your question is really intriguing because on one hand having no trust in the media could lead to inactive electorates. Yet, it may also lead people to do their own research, and thus find multiple points of view. Which could create a less strongly divided nation. #UWJ201 #section302

I could definitely see this being the case. If politicians dance around certain policy topics and don’t make their stance clear it can be hard for journalists to accurately report on it. Thus they turn to horse race reporting because that data is widely available. #UWJ201 #section302
