Devastating flash floods have killed more than 300 people across Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Climate change is driving the rise in extreme and dangerous weather events. My thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Another week of protest outside Parliament this morning as @oxfamgb and other organisations ask the UK Government: where is your Red Line on Gaza? Is it targeting children, or shooting hungry people getting aid, or killing healthcare workers - enough is enough.

A great privilege to hear HE Prof Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of Bangladesh, talking at @chathamhouse.org this morning. I took the opportunity to get an assurance from him that his interim government would push forward still further on women’s and gender rights. I will keep him to that!

Last week, @penguinrandomhouse.bsky.social celebrated a remarkable 90-year birthday journey of storytelling. During my time at the @runnymedetrust.bsky.social we collaborated on the Lit in Colour project which has been groundbreaking in pushing for a more inclusive English literature curriculum.

Spending cuts are a political choice.

The government could choose to retain the aid budget and tax the super-rich instead. Because spending on aid isn’t charity. It’s about basic rights and justice for people living in life-threatening conditions.

Together, we can build a fairer, more equal world.

We have launched our Myanmar Emergency Appeal. While international aid cuts haven't fully percolated through the system yet, this is still going to be a huge first test of humanitarian responses. Any support, no matter how small would be appreciated. Thank you so much. lnkd.in/eZHyH6qA

Our amazing Oxfam book team at the Chelmsford shop received a 200-year-old first edition of the #Bible translated into #Chinese. Expecting to sell it for £400, it reached £56,000 at auction. Amazing! And these funds will of course be used to support our global humanitarian work 💚

REACTION: Oxfam response to the UK Government’s decision to cut the aid budget

Full reaction here: oxfam.org.uk/mc/manvna/
Quote from Halima Begum, CEO, Oxfam GB: "We understand that defence spending has become a major concern in our fast-changing world. However, cutting the already lean aid budget is a false economy and will only increase division, and amounts to a betrayal of the world’s most vulnerable people."

Three years on from the escalation of war in #Ukraine, the human cost continues to rise: with more than 12,000 people killed and more than 28,000 injured. Any path to peace must be inclusive, consultative and sustainable. Oxfam calls for an end to the civilian suffering.
