Minneapolis folks, we have snow outside again. It's going to be nice and cold for at least a week.

Get out there and clear your neighbor's driveway. Don't want anyone getting hurt, don-cha-know.

This went viral with students and is planned today. I'm worried, because a large number of Minneapolis metro schools are closed/online, making my small school (within a mile of an ICE hotel) one hell of a target.

You know all the "How did they not know I was autistic?! I read the dictionary for fun!" memes?
As in, my life was changed by the Children's Visual Encyclopedia when I was 8?

Whelllllp... Goblin1 proudly came home with the Children's Dictionary today and hasn't put it down 😍

I have finally joined a D&D group. I was worried, as they are veteran players and I need everything spelled out for me in painful detail.

My tour guide gnome -turned- Vengeful Paladin unionized the tavern bouncers before we even started, & cultists in the first Level.

"Luv, you fit right in."

Last weekend, I dove into the new/old passion with my first Battletech convention, called KSAGG. I was fortunate to be (mostly) tabled with other folks who were there for a silly, fun time. Only one sweaty try-hard.
Needs way more melanin and estrogen, but was still fun.

In a true week-of-weeks, I recieved word from my old NerdHerd yesterday. The Game Club I created and nurtured for a decade, that beautiful intersection of geeks, unhatched autists, budding progressives, and queer/ally kids... is dead.
Disbanded barely over 2 years after I left, for lack of support.

It took a month of off-and-on motivation to finish the last bits, but all #HalvarMtG is packed away after donating and condensing. Hopefully I'll feel the spark again some day.

Listening to <redacted> podcast on the way to school today, I yelled/happy-flapped in the middle of traffic hearing <redacted> describe, but not openly proclaim, that they Figured It Out.
I've been waiting for YEARS, knowing they need & deserve the other community they unknowingly belong to.

We're doing a school-wide rock-paper-scissors battle today. Winner gets a bracelet from loser. 5 bracelets to challenge a teacher for gaudy chain.

And it is SO wholesome. Unfiltered joy in something simple and silly.

Of course, if they want to come for the champ, I make them do it right 🤪

#Auctober Day 4:
Animal Friends

I got overwhelmed looking for pictures, because I broke my old phone a few months after we lost our last pup.

They were our babies before our babies. On our laps or our bed for 18 years. Can't say much more without blubbering.

After 3 years of fighting, arguing for equitable opportunity for my students, we have a new curriculum director who listened, and fought along side me.

$5400 of calculators that other districts require their families to buy, but is still decades-outdated technology.

#Auctober Day 3: Collections

Y'all....
From the early days of shiny rocks to current Magic cards and Battlemechs, the urge to have all the things of a special interest category is a compulsion bordering on physical sensation, though limited by funds 🤪

#Auctober Day 2: Infodumping

The love language of many neurodivergent people, autists frequently communicate in "burst transmission." We are excited to tell you about the thing– its corollary, hyper-specific details and all. We share ALL of our thoughts, and selves, uninhibited.

Introducing the real two-headed giant!
October is both #ADHDacceptance month, moving the narrative for #ADHD beyond "awareness," and #Auctober, an alternative to April's misinformation-laden minefield for #ActuallyAutistic folks.

Let the infodumping commence!

If you're not #ActuallyAutistic, you will never know the intensity of a Special Interest. Thinking of little else day and night for years, decades.

Magic isn't *Magic* anymore. It's a bastardized Fortnite-ification of what I loved, for profit, and this image made me die a little inside.

Things I hear from staff at my school:

•You sound just like my brother
•I don't get made fun of for my quirks here
•Folks here are real, let me be me
•I never really fit in anywhere until coming here
•It's odd and not for everyone, but we make it work
•I don't get the reputation, it's perfect here

The TI-84 Plus came out in 2004, twenty-one years ago! The Silver and CE editions of it are primarily cosmetic upgrades. The coding and screen tech are archaic by modern standards and can be programmed into a $10 toy.

Yet, it costs $120 because Texas Instruments owns the educational market. 3/🧵
