McMahon Stadium turned 65 this month. It is one of just a few of the “old” CFL stadiums still in use. Most CFL teams are playing in either relatively new or refurbished facilities. But back in 1960, t...

Who robbed my kinfolk? I love coming across these tidbits in genealogy research. Here's a small article in the Globe and Mail (from 1884) about robbers stealing $30 from Elijah Finch, my great-great grandfather. Hope they caught the thieves.

If you're ever at Rideau Hall, be sure to check out the portraits of Canada's former governors general, including that of Earl Grey. His portrait was painted by JWL Forster at Rideau Hall and is displayed in the Tent Room. Grey served as Governor General from 1904 to 1911 and donated the Grey Cup.

100 Yard Fields in Early Canadian Football

In 2027, the field will shrink from 110 yards in length to 100 yards between the goal lines.

But upon further review, it appears that 100-yard football fields are not new to Canadian football.

The world is smaller today with the passing of Jane Goodall. She was perhaps the greatest advocate for and ally of the world's primates. The pictures of her hugging those beautiful chimpanzees always made me smile.
The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, has passed away due to natural causes.

She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States.

I was only 14 at the time and just started following the CFL and wondered why the heck the CFL was playing a game in Portland, Oregon. I didn't realise they were testing the market for expansion.

I was actually on board with U.S. expansion and still have a Sacramento Gold Miners t-shirt.

I'm a traditionalist but I'm ok with these changes. The shorter field opens up more stadiums/potential stadiums to play the game. Think Wanderers Grounds in Halifax or Saputo Stadium in Montreal. Plus American and European stadiums for possible international games. The game has always evolved.
MAJOR CHANGES: CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnston announces significant changes to the league. 🏈
