I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Pete Kadushin to discuss how pushing your own limits and pursuing your own goals can be an informative—if not essential—part of developing as a mental performance consultant. Podcast link: open.spotify.com/episode/0BhY...

“When most people say they want to be a millionaire, what they might actually mean is “I’d like to spend a million dollars.” And that is literally the opposite of being a millionaire.”

2 Months out from my first 24hour trail race. Training is going well. Healthy. Managing scheduling challenges effectively so far. Loving the long efforts on the weekend. Planning to hit a total of 70km this week. Grateful to my body for letting me explore my mental limits.

I had a post on letting kids play outside go viral

The comments? "Kidnappers & rapists are everywhere!"

We’ve trained our minds to see threats everywhere. It's making us miserable

It’s at the heart of our society's problems: mental health, tribalism & more.

We focus on the process instead of the outcome because the outcome is not controllable. Critically, this isn't to say the outcome isn't important; if the outcome wasn't important any old half-focused process would do.

Sleep restriction has a pronounced negative impact on testosterone levels in young men. Thanks for sharing the article Steve!
In one study, going from 8 hours of sleep to 5 hours of sleep for a week decreased testosterone levels by 15% in young men.

So if you think testosterone levels are important to your performance...then get some sleep!

If you can't find yourself in the problem, you likely won't find yourself in the solution.

Managing self-talk has been a focus of sport psychology research (including my own) for decades. Dr. Ethan Kross has provided an excellent resource on our internal dialogue in his book "Chatter". Here he is discussing the nuance of his work with Andrew Huberman: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og56...

I've been thinking (and writing) about the concept of mindset in it's broadest terms lately. Here's an interview I did on high performance mindsets in the lead up to the 2024 summer Olympics: www.cbc.ca/listen/live-...

Goals are effective only when they facilitate motivation, they can’t be downloaded from the internet or your parents. Athletes who reach their potential have identified a potential worth reaching for. For them, and for all of us, success comes slowly, often in obscurity, and then all at once.
