Two projects collide with the stars of The Burn against the Skies Backdrop Book. Both are available on our web store now if you'd like to level up your "telling the stories of the Wee Folk" or your miniatures or toys photography.

Just updated the FiveEvil Glasshouse PDF so the pre-generated characters have their own separate character sheet PDFs for your convenience.

It's a great little horror scenario for FiveEvil. I'm yet to run it myself but I can't wait.

Did a little animation again. Magic innit, stop motion?

But these writers don’t look anything like a cider wizard. They all write deeply affecting, absolute hammer blows of novels and yet also look like someone it’d be nice to share a little cuddle with. Might have to wrassle Grampa Cormac shirtless first. But still.

With that in mind here’s my favourite weird little guy, Gurgi from The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander.

Messing about with my latest PDF backdrop for my patrons - which I never ever talk about here, since this is more Handiwork Games stuff. But hey! I have seven years of Patreon posts available right now for a really low price.

Ok. This skull idea has legs.

Next up: better lighting.
January 5, 2026 at 6:23 PM
Parcel packing round 1 completed. Meanwhile: the skull is melting. Bit of an equipment test more than anything else at this stage. I'll blog about this on the temporarily fallow Making Maskwitches at some point. Maybe if we get some useable video. making-maskwitches.ghost.io

It's a busy first day back at work, packing and dispatching all your Christmas and New Year orders, but our first release of 2026 is our dedicated backdrops catalogue, included with every Backdrop Books order! Including tick boxes to record your collection! #jhbackdrops

Got a couple of weird logs that I saved from burning that’ll make a nice base or backdrop for the melting.

Now regretting not stuffing the skull moulds with hair. Was thinking pine needles but hair would look great/awful. Still, moulds can be reused you know.

Back at work tomorrow. So the skulls are in the freezer, ready to be filmed melting. Obviously.

A tricky day to be happy about things, but this arrived so that was a small good. Following a conversation with @fromthemorgue.bsky.social and remembering my original copy is still on loan elsewhere (what’s a decade between friends?) it was time to revisit this gem. Chris Ware’s Building Stories.

I found a photo on my phone of one of the big ones. Maybe someone somewhere has some to sell? (That’s a footsore shield maiden there too)

I had big plans to mark the end of the year with a big post etc but I’m done in! It‘ll keep.

Thank you for keeping us so busy with orders for backdrop books this month. Clearly the premium Xmas gift of 2025!

A few things yet to do but ending my year as I mean to start the next.

It's only blinking Officer Peach from @peachytips.bsky.social, who is almost finished enough to look good in the right lighting. But here he is against the World War Ruins Backdrop book, and I guess this is Officer Peach's one dream where he makes it to the ruins of Paris? #jhbackdrops

Weird little guys hanging out.

From The Burn, by @malcolmcraig.bsky.social. It’s a standalone title about being a weird little guy that uses The Silver Road story telling game. #ttrpgs

Naturally, self praise is no praise at all but on this one I’m gonna go put on a limb and declare, in hindsight, “mission accomplished”. What a strange thing we made.

I don’t think there’s *many* other RPGs that look like this? (It’s the monochrome version of Maskwitches of Forgotten Doggerland)

About this time of night I like to have a poke around in my random, automatically-created phone folders. This one from Pine Pitch Black caught me unawares.

Doing things is weird. Because later you can look back at the things and go “Woah. Weird” because past you is different to now you.
