SQL is like Python — always the second best choice in every situation. Most of the time that’s more than good enough. Start with SQL and migrate later if needed. The only NoSQL solution I ended up adopting long term was Redis and that’s usually a complement to SQL not a replacement.

Core Jenkins is fine and in some ways quite nice. The problem has to do with plugins and the varying degrees of quality and active development on those plugins. You can often kluge a solution to any problem with those and repeat it a few more times and you have a maintenance nightmare.
