Jackson said he tried to leave as protesters clashed with ICE agents, but the agents deployed a flash-bang grenade and tear gas under his SUV while his six children were inside. “I grabbed two kids at a time and was running in and out of the house,” Jackson said. “I barely could breathe. There was tear gas all over my car, like my car filled up with smoke.” Jackson said two of his children, ages 2 and six months, were taken to the hospital after the younger one briefly had trouble breathing.

KATU-TV reported that U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers fired the shots that wounded the couple, citing national ABC News sources. Portland police confirmed in a statement that they responded to a shooting on Southeast 02nd Avenue and Main at about 2:18 pm. They confirmed that federal agents at the scene had fired gunshots. Shortly after, police earned that a man was requesting help at 146th and Burnside 'Officers responded and found a male anc 'emale with apparent gunshot wounds," police aid in a statement. "Officers applied a ourniquet and summoned emergency medical personnel, The patients were transported to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown. Officers have determined the two people were injured in the shooting involving federal agents.'"
