My report in tomorrow’s Guardian on the disability benefit cuts “domino effect”: losing PIP will see unpaid carers lose their benefits too - pulling away two main strands of a family’s income at once. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Great to be at WECIL’s Community Event today thinking about choice, control and doing things differently. Heard about www.accesscharity.org.uk/accessava which provides free legal information about adult social care and now human rights with the brilliant BIHR.

Absolutely wonderful award for an absolute legend of a Social Worker. Congratulations @elaineljames.bsky.social 👏👏👏

Thrilled to see @elaineljames.bsky.social awarded an MBE for services to social care. Anyone who has worked with Elaine or had any involvement in her work on Promote the Vote will know just what a fantastic public servant she is. Really well deserved.

I agree, even the simple things like the no. of people we encounter who have ‘lost’ their hearing aids so they can’t communicate shows the disregard that can be for people’s humanity, choice & control & value placed on their lives. Stigma is huge and you could easily feel you’re better off dead.

The focus on transitions is so welcome this year at #ncasc24. Delighted to see the adults *and* children’s Principal Social Workers talking whole family - great role-modelling of the kind of boundary-spanning leadership we need.
