Qualcomm acquires Arduino company, that will be the end of the open source open hardware that defined the makers revolution.

What changed in the KIM-1 Revisions?

KIM-1, were IC sockets used?

Before I saw the last revision, Rev G, I had never seen an original KIM-1 with IC sockets. All ICs were soldered right into the PCB.

Now I have a KIM-1 Rev G an photo of Dick Dral with white IC sockets.

So the last iteration of the KIM-1 did have IC sockets.

It's alive! Keypad/Display #PCB module for my #kim-1 replica is working! Mostly based on the original 1970s #schematic, using modern parts. I wrote a PCB test fixture using Arduino and #rp2040 #raspberrypipico module from #adafruit. My first time using a rp2040 was mostly painless. #65C02

Yay! The main #PCB for my MOS #KIM-1 replica arrived today from #JLCPCB! The sub-boards seem to fit. Bringup will take awhile since there's a gross chip-pin-numbering error on one of the smaller boards and I'll have to re-fab it. But I'll be able to partially assemble it and test a few things.
My KIM-1 replica, affectionately named "KIM-1000". An all surface mount version based on the original 1970's schematic. I attempted to add a Cyberpunk-ish style to the edges. New KIM-1 (for me, it is from 1976), a Rev B
Nice addition to the first edition and the Rev A.

Was there a Rockwell KIM-1? A myth or? Yes and no.
There is a KIM-1 by Rockwell in 1977.
No, it is a MOS Technology KIM-1 PCB.
Rockwell added documents with Rockwell title pages and contents 99% MOS Technology.
The Rockwell KIM-1 is just an OEM product!

So this is what the 500 had to be!

Only binary output, Intel hex or so would be nice.

Indeed, some nice ideas in there. It breaks alas with common MOS Technology assembler syntax, which means a lot of rewriting existing source.

To celebrate the 50 years of the 6500 family I have added two manuals in good quality to the manuals section:
MCS6500 Hardware Manual August 1975 First Edition, Version 6500-10.
– MCS6500 Programming Manual by Synertek, version 6500-50.

The software titles I bought for my KIM-1.

it was early and a big hit for the unexpanded KIM-1 ! As was the MICADE Assembler/Editor used to develop Microchess. Needs at least 8K RAM and tty.

Happy 50th anniversary to the MOS 6502! Could Microchess for the KIM-1 be the first commercially available game for the 6502? The yellow booklet of the left is version 1.0. You typed it in yourself but there was an optional cassette. Let me know your thoughts. #vintagecomputer #retrocomputer

Some of the oldest EPROMs I have. Once I had those connected to my KIM-1, we designed an EPROM programmer and EPROM card for it in 1978.

If you have a KIM-1 Rev B, D or E, I am looking for those to complete my KIM-1 collection. They are worthwhile, so I will pay a good price for it.

Reminds me of the good old average days! 😀👍

And yes, it does run the recently open-sourced Microsoft BASIC.

Found in my archive, my first years in DEC we still used flowchart templates, on paper!
