Welcome to the Hampshire Nature feed which is for natural history sightings and events/news (bioblitz, talks, walks etc), in Hampshire. Last week we had an interesting afternoon at St Catherine's Hill SSSI and were joined by @ralphsian.bsky.social! Species noted included Bastard Toadflax, Autumn Gentian, Clustered Bellflower and Red Bartsia #WildflowerHour @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Shiny Glasswort Salicornia emerici, Gutner Point, Hayling Island, Hampshire. Not a lot found today, but to be honest, I could've seen loads 😅. Salicornias are anything but straightforward. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Better numbers last night 133/36 in SE Hants. 2 NFY Orange Sallow and Rhomboid Tortrix (escaped before proper photo), both sp absent last year. 2 L-album, White Point, Turnip, Dewick’s, 2 Blair’s Mocha, 2 Four-spotted Footman, RDP either migrants/locals #migrantmothuk #teammoth

1776: Black snails are more sluggish than in the summer; but in sight all day at this season of the year. Rooks steal wallnuts off the trees. Some wallnut trees naked of leaves. Saw one hornet. When mice eat nuts, they perforate a round hole in the shell: but squirrels split their nuts in halves...

Well almost a first for Hants, the Anarsia has been confirmed as a male lineatella by dissection. The first and only record to date was in 1971, and reared through from an imported Spanish plum. I did bottle it and got my friend Richard to do the gen det work! #teammoth
