My spouse was fired from the VA and didn't know it. We found out yesterday their position was termed 2/24. They'd been going to work for 2 1/2 weeks and weren't on payroll. Their boss only found out when the timekeeper disallowed bereavement leave.

I was 8 years old when they started tearing down the Berlin Wall; I was 10-11 when the USSR fell apart. I knew what these events meant because my bestie was a USSR refugee. I was so happy for her that things were getting better over there. I'm so sorry we failed you, bestie.
