I’m back for one last roll of the dice on this crazy app that nobody uses. Will I immediately give up two weeks later? Probably!

God Severance is unbelievably good. I don’t even care if it ends up going nowhere or not resolving the endless mysteries it sets up. I’m just here for the ride.

Haven’t been so affected by the death of an artist in a long time like David Lynch. Truly one of the great, unique minds in film and television. The world is a less interesting place without him.

Hosting at my favourite club in the world on Wednesday!

I’m enjoying the “Mum’s Drunk Christmas Karaoke Party” vibes of Sophie Ellis-Bextor as we all wait for Murder on the Dancefloor.

Catching up on lots of 2024 films I missed so going to keep them to this thread, starting with:

The Substance lived up to the hype. As long as you can accept that it’s a broad gory cartoon with satire as subtle as a sledgehammer to the nads, it is easily the most fun film I’ve seen this year.

I finally quit Twitter for good. I’ve been secretly checking in to doomscroll. But after seeing a middle-aged MP face a ton of homophobic abuse from bot and troll accounts for the hideous crime of… dating a 30 year old (Shock! Horror!), I just can’t be part of Musk’s dystopian hellscape anymore.

I want to be cynical but honestly, the Gavin and Stacey finale was pretty fantastic. Couldn’t have asked for much more.

Funny how music opinions vary.

Listening to Diamond Jubilee by Cindy Lee, the Pitchfork #1 album of the year, and my wife just walked in to ask me why I’m listening to hold music.

Watching Bridget Jones’s Diary for the first time in about 15 years. I can remember almost every gag and character off by heart, yet I could not have told you what the actual plot is or, for example, how and why Bridget ends up sliding down a firepole and flashing her arse on television.

The new Photos app on iPhone is such an unbelievably shit update. I refuse to believe anyone tested that and thought it was an improvement.

All I’ve been watching for the last few weeks is Mad Men. Do you reckon people would find it off if I started turning up to gigs chain smoking, wearing a three piece suit and exclusively drinking scotch? I’m thinking a change in style could do me good.

While I’m taking a short break from stand-up, I’ve been rediscovering just how much I love scriptwriting. It will always be my first love. If anyone has any scripts and wants notes from a former CBBC script editor and MA in Screenwriting, please hit me up!

What’s your definitive “if it’s on at 11pm on terrestrial TV and I have nothing else to do I’ll always watch it” film? Shaun of the Dead is the gold standard, but I’ll throw in My Cousin Vinny.

Junior Taskmaster is absolutely delightful. Give a raise to whoever cast Rose and Mike.

You know you’ve found a true best friend when you willingly show them your spreadsheet rating every album you’ve ever listened to and they earnestly say, “I should start making one of these”. We are blood brothers now.

I get the feeling Blue Sky is going to be as popular as Threads.
November 12, 2024 at 9:37 AM
I’m only using Twitter to retweet news now so thought I’d try Blue Sky again, despite following almost nobody and not needing another social media in my life. Hello!

My pet peeve is end of year album reviews that don’t tell you what the album actually sounds like.

“It’s the sound of broken Britain. Of dark forests in the middle of the night. Of the arrogance of youth”.

JUST TELL ME IF IT SOUNDS LIKE THE BEATLES OR NOT.

Watched The Devil Wears Prada for the first time last night. You can tell times have changed because Anne Hathaway works for the biggest fashion magazine in America and all her friends are like, “You sell out! What kind of loser would take that job?”

Spent the last few days brainstorming and workshopping the perfect first post on Bluesky. Something witty and succinct and memorable to introduce myself.

Anyway, couldn’t come up with anything. Hello new social media platform I’ll forget about within the month.
