Still angry about Brexit and particularly the post-2016 Tories. Labour not obviously better than meh. Rejoin. Social housing. Fuel duty. Equality. Stop the triple lock. Tax meat according to its CO2.

It’s obscene. Utterly venal, shameless and plain ugly.

And, despite multiple corrections he STILL claims Europe’s aide as his own.

I really do think the State Visit should be cancelled.

Such corruption of the truth should be met with very tough rejection.

I can’t get over the sheer ugliness of a president of 🇺🇸 punching down in public on the President of 🇺🇦 , who epitomises valour & leadership, accusing the victim of a war of aggression of starting WW3 and not being sufficiently grateful.

Trump is such white trash he said “this will make great TV”

Vance knew what he was doing. The aim was to provoke. They succeeded. Likelihood of a ceasefire was already in the balance because Putin won't agree to one. Now they can blame the weaker party, which is what they want. Blame Ukraine and possibly Europe for the failure. Dark times

Remember: the televised punishment & humiliation meted out to Zelensky just now could be done to any NATO ally facing similar aggression. The sense of sneering hostility & contempt by Trump & Vance isn’t specific to Ukraine.

Zelenskyy *cannot* agree to the lies from Vance.

He CANNOT say that his soldiers are "fleeing the battlefield".

He cannot simply become a propagandist for Putin.

This trap was always going to happen. The U.S. is aligned with russia (no lies can hide this fact now)

In short, a war can end when ceasefire terms become acceptable to both parties. What Putin is ready to accept are terms of a capitulation, not a ceasefire. Trump has made those his terms except he thinks it’s different because of the minerals deal. /4

That is unacceptable for Z because at the core he doesn’t think a Trump deal would fare better than previous deal. And that comparison already is unacceptable to Trump and Vance /3

Here‘s the problem with the diplomat‘s statement: you let someone insult you and your country to get (a bit) of what you want. But if one thing was clear during the meeting /1
“I just don’t understand how Zelensky walked into the trap,” said the diplomat, noting Zelensky’s long-winded remarks that triggered the argument. “Your life literally depends on this man. If he starts throwing custard pies at you, you let him.” www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

This is the problem in the US that has enabled the extreme polarisation and Trump’s power. Once a society does not agree on a shared reality and the principles of the system anymore, its game over.

European countries must be really careful not to lose the shared reality too
We’re living through a fundamental shift in how discourse is created. Institutions once shaped a shared reality through discourse - imperfectly, but with structure. Now, that reality has splintered. In its place, engagement-driven ecosystems amplify whatever resonates, truth optional.

TRUMP: Ummmm ... it's an interesting question. I think they have to make peace. That was not a good war to go into.
