Those comics are all extremely high quality. But the other reason I list them is that they're in or adjacent to (what I subjectively perceive as) the "literary" genre.

There are comics that are ludicrously high quality that aren't in the "literary" genre. For example, Calvin and Hobbes.

Another problem is that comics are, despite some antecedents going back centuries, a really young genre. Most widely-acknowledged great literary fiction is at least a half century old; Moby Dick is 175 years old, I think.

Comics are too young to have many acknowledged masterpieces that old.

And finally - going back to the Calvin and Hobbes example - I think too many people conflate "in the high literature genre" and "greatest."

There are things comics do that prose can't do as well or as naturally.

Comics can be great with or without aping the "literary" genre.
