Christmas is hard for many. The years roll, the ghosts at the table increase. We’re haunted by the absence of voices, of laughter engines who drank and ate with us. This can be day of remembrance rituals. For what it’s worth, Hooklanders near and far are in my candles today. Be gentle on yourselves.

The Ladybird Christmas tree.
Spindly, slightly wonky, over decorated with a random assortment of decorations - and always ready to shed an improbable quantity of needles

Day 19 of #HooklandChristmasTree decoration. Time for modernist ornaments. We take the chain of electrical pylons from box, the silver wires between them pulled tight. Under them we scatter repurposed dolls and action figures into a march of ragged walkers, Children of The Hum.

Sometimes the images sprayed and spat from aerosol cans onto underpasses are just intended as pretty scenes. Sometimes they represent ghost trees, omenic corvids and fox brides. It's my job know if they are. – Sophie Morley of Woden College's Graffiti Research and Formalisation Team (GRAFT), 1983

There comes a point when we begin to encounter more polite, respectful and well-mannered ghosts than we do people. This is why I tell those who ask that I prefer the company of spectres to that of the living. - #CJosiffe #Ghosts

There are infections of blood. There are infections of the soul. There are I believe, infections of the place. For the land itself may be wounded by our traumas. Where its psychic skin cracks, the spoilings of rot and wickedness can set in. We call such infections hauntings. – Rev. A. Morley

Goodnight from Gosmer, where the villagers have chosen to burn an effigy of Thatcher the Iron Witch instead of Guy Fawkes. Goodnight from David Appleyard, walking a night filled with bonefire incense and the heady gunpowder smell of exploded fireworks. Goodnight from Hookland.
