Congratulations to Dame Sarah Mullally DBE on her historic appointment as the Archbishop of Canterbury.

As Bishop of London for the past seven years, she has shown remarkable leadership and dedication to our city - I know she’ll continue this vital work in her new role.

A world without poverty was the clarion call of the last Labour Government. It can be of this one too. As chair of @labourcid.bsky.social I am proud to have co-written the foreword with Joe Dromey @thefabians.bsky.social for our essay collection collaboration exploring the future of development.

The UK has a proud record on overseas aid.

But in recent years we've seen cuts in the development budget, and a fracturing on the political consensus around aid.

In 'Promising Development', we explore the future of aid in an uncertain world.

A world free of poverty is core to our Labour values - it is why LCID was founded. But we live in dark times for our cause.

Promising Development, a collection of 11 essays co-released by @thefabians.bsky.social and LCID shows us a path forward.

Debt relief means the poorest countries can spend taxpayers’ money on healthcare, not interest payments.

We welcome the launch of the London Coalition on Sustainable Sovereign Debt, chaired by Emma Reynolds. Although there’s much more to do, it’s a good start www.reuters.com/business/fin...

Great to take part in several events in Islington for Refugee Week, #communityasasuperpower. There is nothing like good food, music,to bring people together, extending a hand of friendship and embrace. We danced together, we ate together, we smiled together, this is community and this is Islington

This week, I want to emphasise the importance of showing compassion and solidarity through small acts of kindness to begin the process of making community wherever we are.

I urge everyone to attend any Refugee Week events in their area.

As Chair of the APPG on Refugees, I am happy to welcome Refugee Week #CommunityAsASuperpower.

In support of safe routes, I have asked the Government to rethink their position on barring citizenship for those who use irregular routes.

May’s been a bumper month of activity for @labourcid.bsky.social - from our chairs writing in LabourList about aid & the local elections, to a parliamentary reception with MPs, and a private roundtable with @savechildrenuk.bsky.social on in-donor refugee costs. And lots more to come over the summer!

This week, Cllr Nurullah Turan and I wrote to the Tribune expressing our readiness to work with the Ministry of Justice to bring the homes on Wellington Mews in Laycock Ward back into use. Our residents need good quality, affordable homes and these family sized units would provide just that.
