That gap.

32% see immigration as one of the most important issues facing Britain — more than any other issue.

Just 4% see it as something that's important in their own life — one of the lowest shares, and a fraction of the numbers for inflation or the NHS.

A new study by @ucl.ac.uk Equalise member @baowenxue.bsky.social, in collaboration with King's College London and @citystgeorges.bsky.social, reveals gender disparities following a major reform designed to make flexible working more accessible.

we hope that this paper can provide theoretical framework for others when exploring the ideal worker culture to see how such culture and changes in such cultures shape work outcomes. We did this for part-time preference where we see our cultural norms make a difference. (graph below for men)
regression analysis results for part time preference of men and influence of work culture between and within

The results shows that work devotion culture is slowly declining - masculinity at work on the other hand, is a bit slower to move. While, dual/plural devotion is rising quite a bit, as is degendering natures of work cultures across occupations. Also there seems to be some convergence

What is more, we go beyond the descriptive norms - e.g. hours of work people do and number of women in leadership positions - and look at injunctive norms - namely through job adverts. We consider ads as a window into what employers want in workers. We do this through machine learning techniques

Firstly - unlike previous papers, we examine the ideal worker culture as a multidimensional item where it is on the one hand about whether we allow workers single (only to work!) or multiple devotions (work and private life) and whether work cultures are masculine or more de-gendered.
Figure showing the multidimensionality of ideal worker and inclusive work culture norms
Ideal worker norm	Inclusive worker norm
Devotion
Work devotion:

Idealization of work commitment (I)

Overtime, long work hours, and weekend work (D)

Devotion pluralism:

Recognition of nonwork commitments (I)

Worker-centered flexibility arrangements (D)

Gender
Ideal worker masculinity:

Idealization of masculinity at work (I)

Male dominance and male gendering (D)

Degendering equity:

Recognition of all genders as suitable for work (I)

Gender balance and inclusive language (D)

So happy to have our paper with Jan Mueller published in Gender Work & Organisations. It theorises the multidimensionality of the ideal worker culture to ask the question, do we see a move away from it. The results in Switerland says yes - but only certain aspects. www.kcl.ac.uk/news/job-adv...

The best thing I love about the whole huntrix success is that Hollywood always thought and still think only white voices and experiences transcend across the world and makes money. This movie effing shot that notion out of the water.

I've been trying to buy shorts and my old ones are full of holes. Realised that both of those companies seems to have disappeared and or cut down significantly and didn't have the shorts and all I can find are hot pants or denim long shorts. What happened to good old mid length khakis ???
