I don’t understand where she’s getting the £55/MWh from. And the CCC have already explained to her that these figures aren’t comparable and why.

Start at the beginning of the Rutshire Chronicles and work your way through in order: Riders, Rivals, Polo and The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous. I got stuck on Appassionata because I hate Rannaldini so much and thought that Helen Campbell-Black had suffered enough.

Always worth remembering that the actions of the Suffragettes were often not 'peaceful': sustained campaigns of arson, vandalism & in some instances assault. If anyone tried that today they would likely end up in prison for a very long time. @rogerhallam.com got 5 years for attending a Zoom call.

On reports the Home Secretary plans to grant police more powers to prevent ‘repeated protests’, Greenpeace UK:

“Protest works because it is repetitive. If police had told the Suffragettes or civil rights activists ‘you’ve made your point,’ they would never have won the victories we all enjoy today"

One element for #COP30 trackers to keep an eye on... India has been virtually silent in climate-related fora since COP29 + no NDC to boot. Delhi was vocally annoyed post Baku + maybe this is the response. But raises question: what are they up to?

If I was a politician and didn’t know better, I’d think SSP5 - 8.5 sounds great. Economic and social development! Rapid technological progress! Investments in health and education! Maybe a more realistic definition would be helpful?

And if no @Conservatives MP challenges her by Xmas, I will resign from the party after 28 years as a member. I know what it means to be a conservative, even if others do not. We have a responsibility to people, planet, the vulnerable and future generations.

Polar scientists meeting at @royalsociety.org

Just found out that we can request an armed guard to walk us to class. Yeah, things are going great on campus.

This is so deeply unserious. Throughout the entire 14 years of the Conservative government oil and gas licenses were routinely issued and for much of the period there was a policy of maximising extraction.

Production still fell, the economy flatlined, and energy security got worse.

The King's speech at the Trump banquet was quite good: www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...
Screenshot of a section of King Charles' speech: “Our two nations have an exceptional legacy of shared discovery. Together, we laid the foundations of nuclear science, mapped the human genome and built the internet, upon which all contemporary commerce, communication and defence is based. Together, our scientists and engineers are shaping the world of tomorrow, not least with new partnership agreements on technology, and the prosperity that stands to bring.

“Our countries have the closest defence, security and intelligence relationship ever known. In two world wars, we fought together to defeat the forces of tyranny. Today, as tyranny once again threatens Europe, we and our allies stand together in support of Ukraine, to deter aggression and secure peace. And our Aukus submarine partnership, with Australia, sets the benchmark for innovative and vital collaboration." Screenshot of a section of King Charles' speech: “In striving together for a better world, we also have a precious opportunity to safeguard and to restore the wonders and beauty of nature for the generations who follow us. We share the ambition, and determination, to preserve our majestic lands and waters; above all, to ensure that we have clean water, clean air and clean food.

“Our legacy for the next 250 years and beyond is to ensure that our children, grandchildren, and those who come after them, can experience the awe and magnificence of the natural treasures found in the countryside, on the coasts, in the seas and in the national parks established by your predecessors and mine.

“Mr President, Mrs Trump — the bond between our two nations is indeed a remarkable one. Forged in the fire of conflict, it has been fortified through our shared endeavours and burnished by the deep affection between our people. Tested time and again, it has borne the weight of our common purpose and raised our ambition for a better world."

The paper went through a proper peer review process, no problems around fees or anything else as far as I know. A bit suspect that Frontiers for Young Minds is on the list as though it’s an adult journal. Its where children‘s versions of the papers are published- reviewed by kids for kids.

On Svalbard, rain falls where snow once lay.

The white patches of ice and snow slip away, leaving the mountains darker, bare, and heavy with melt.

What once gleamed now fades—a stark reminder of a world warming too quickly.
