“Others say empathy is central to Christianity,” has to be one of the great examples of both-sideism in journalistic history.

that seems not good. And maybe making #vinyl out of recycled water bottles isn’t the benevolent project it’s been touted as

these people really love traitors.

(@nbcnews.com ‘Protesting’ is holding a sign and chanting. Breaking through a window to unlock a door so you can kill elected reps and stop an election certification is called something else.)

That means we must curse the name of Albert Einstein, who convinced FDR to pursue the bomb, and Leo Szilard who convinced Einstein. Both scientists became the most outspoken advocates against the atomic bomb and tried to stop the bombings in Japan. The fear of a Nazi bomb was real.

With all due respect, you’re a wanker.

they want what happened in Haiti to happen here. Soon this will be a photo of U.S./Canada border. But do we really need all that oxygen and Co2 out of our atmosphere?

In fairness, George Washington was basically a real estate developer. He supported the Revolution because it helped his land holdings in the west. He was also born into money and appeared rich, but was constantly broke. Even had to get a loan for $100 to get to his own inauguration.

Thanks for sharing. Lovely is excellent. One small quibble with this section. Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Israel is not. Israel is the only country claiming a right to nuclear weapons. The piece is kind of making Netanyahu’s false argument.

Remember when it was a huge scandal that Clinton rewarded campaign donors with a night in the Lincoln Bedroom?

The GOP wanted a special counsel appointed.

Omar El Akkad’s writing stopped me in my tracks. “It is generally the case that people are most zealously motivated by the worst plausible thing that could happen to them.” For some that’s death; for most of us it is being yelled at. #Gaza

My understanding is that gain of function type research including today with SARS-CoV-2, are BSL-3 or higher.

I don’t know what caused their sickness. My main issue is that plenty of scientists say we can never know for certain due to obstruction. Questioning seems reasonable.
March 26, 2025 at 3:22 PM
Right. The WaPo article says it was the Wuhan CDC & Prevention Lab. Here’s the one saying WIV was doing BSL-2 level research with coronaviruses.

The main point is that there were major concerns raised in 2018

Yes. “CIA assesses with low confidence that a research-related origin of the COVID-19 pandemic is more likely than a natural origin”
March 26, 2025 at 2:34 PM
Thanks for taking the time to respond so thoroughly. What about the fact that WIV was conducting research in BSL-2 labs that should have been BSL-4? The scientists in 2018 so concerned?
March 26, 2025 at 2:31 PM
How would asking in good faith look different? You are being disingenuous. Those who said it is likely from a lab or plausible include:
BND (Ger.)
MI6 (UK)
FBI
CIA
Dept. of Energy

There are solid scientists who favor lab leak, many who don’t, and nearly all say we can never be certain.
