also just like, we need to be clear about reality. just because a statement serves a valid rhetorical purpose doesn't mean it's allowed to be misleading. the truth is independent of our preferences and if we lose sight of that we're all at the octopus rodeo without our safety hats

i'm still tinkering with the construction because it's easy to accidentally say "you are unworthy of freedom" but that's not the intent. at a certain point freedom requires not demanding the government boss your kids around for you when they get a haircut you disapprove of

i don't think we can recover. i think a new nation must be born out of this. it can be mostly the same nation but with a slightly new graphics engine and more cosmetic monetization, but it at least needs a balance patch

they also seem to think that the losing wars in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc, were lost because of individual combat performance in engagements with the enemy

and that...that was definitely not the issue! the US military is very good at winning battles!

the belief that a parent's religion exempts a child from human rights protections is the single toxic root of all conservatism. regardless of if you're LGBT or not, ending the idea that parents have the right to indoctrinate their children is essential to preserving your human rights

human rights law was formed from hard, bloody experience with the depths of human depravity and any belief, religious or otherwise, that demands its violation is one in service to evil

a benevolent god would be all over ICESCR and ICCPR and if yer god ain't benevolent lose its phone number

every so often i see a (mainly conservative but not always) commentator make some statement about how society should operate and all I can think in response is "you are unworthy of the mature freedom society demands of you"
