Money alone is not the solution to all our ills. But without clear change, those ills will get much worse. A funding settlement that strengthens local government in poorer northern communities - as we have been promised - is essential to that change.

A huge majority of people think we need to invest in the Northern rail schemes that have been in development for years.

This includes 55% of Reform voters who don’t agree with their party’s new stance.

We are proud of what GM has achieved in the first decade of devolution.👇🏻

But we’ve had to fight for it and every scrap of investment.

Imagine what more the North could be if backed with the same investment in infrastructure as others parts of the UK! 🤔

People in London, particularly the super wealthy, pay half what normal families do in #Hartlepool for better services. Londoners may pay slightly more, but many in #North will get better services

Pleasing to see further follow up to last month's #GlobalTalentFund announcement and the remarkable manner in which the North's universities were overlooked.

A year on from the Manvers rioting, I spoke to @jenwilliamsft.bsky.social about where we are now - the flashpoint rightly removed, but the atmosphere more poisonous. An asylum system that works well would be part of the “hard edged fairness” that restores public confidence and undermines extremism.

Speaking at our event @henrimurison.bsky.social says that the London/South East pay premium is perpuated throughout the country. A northern university needs its graduates to move to London to show that its courses deliver a pay premium, even if that doesn't work out well for the local economy.
