they don't make it paid, they spend a lot for the training, their investors are also their users so they are not happy, they just try to compete by following the crowd and betting on a loosing horse "but with user control"

@[email protected] no one uses animate for ineractive things anymore, adobe deprecated it alongside flash, so i think there might be ways.
lottie especially, synfig and glaxnimate both support it, and it's the industry's (open) standard by now

i used square home for years before switching to kvaesitso, but if you want something more normal, there are plenty of options of f-droid, like einstein or fossify.
