The ancient historian reincarnated as a penguin. An apt and erudite apterydite.

I knew a director of music who insisted on 1, 2, 1, 3. Which kept everyone on their toes.

My favourite scene is the one in the diner where Geoff sings a verse of “A Maiden most Gentle”. The whole diner goes quiet. Every one looks round and an alto at the next table says “I’ll Ave what he’s Ave-ing”

Also American usage is to use “stock” in many contexts where English usage would be shares. Eg where UK says “Ordinary shares” or “Preference shares” US would generally say “Common stock” and “Preferred stock”

Or you could make a case for a system where the instructor can make multiple bookings and assign them later to pupils, which I guess is how it’s meant to work. But the ability to do that is a privilege granted by government to facilitate the public good, and selling it is abusive.

I find it slightly odd in the article that the focus is entirely on the “touts” who act as middlemen, and not on the licences driving instructors selling their privileged log-in details.

Has one of these “experiences” ever, ever, ever exceeded expectations? Do we only hear about the disasters despite there being plenty of excellent ones? Or are they all varying degrees of crap?

Not sure based on what you’ve written whether anyone other than Howlett did anything wrong. Of course MPs meet organisations “not linked to their constituency”. Of course they engage with entities who might have ulterior motives. That’s part of their job isn’t it?

I was thinking the same. “Hedge-pig” is definitely a word, just a less common one. I actually interpreted the punchline as being a “hedge-pig” rather than a “hedgehog”. As Moose says, the joke is complex enough that using the same words in the picture doesn’t matter.

“Yes of course I’m trying. No you can’t uncover your eyes yet. How many times must I say it - I can’t get it back into my trousers because the tip is firmly glued into the keyhole. No I have no idea who would do such a thing. And stop giggling.” #GirlsOwnCc
