Every time someone sees City Hall for first time:

"Why is it so ugly?"
"Because brutalism."
"... and?"
"And RoboCop."
"... so?"

City Hall should be a symbol of a bright & hopeful Dallas, not a dark & dystopian Detroit.

Oooo well tearing down #Dallas City Hall is on table, I humbly suggest revisiting Art Deco Municipal Center design from 1946 Dallas Master Plan.

✅ Visually link City Hall ↔ Hall of State in Fair Park
✅ Easily fits footprint of current structure
✅ Beautiful to all, not just brutalism-savants

What if we had @bucees.bsky.social in a DART Station? Imagine if Buc'ees opened in the high-speed rail station 💡
EBJ Union Station in the foreground with Reunion Tower in the background, with the ball at the top of the tower glowing with the iconic Buc'ees mascot. To the right, a high speed bullet train passes behind Union Station.

Thanks to Bloomberg for speaking with our vice president about this critical issue facing the Metroplex. Dallas and its suburbs need a strong, fully funded DART- we simply do not have a city without it.
In Dallas, Transit Cuts Reflect Long-Simmering Suburban Tensions
A suburban funding standoff has brought service cuts on Dallas Area Rapid Transit and an uncertain future for public transportation in the Texas city.

"We're Winning the Housing Fight but Losing the Transportation Fight. Why?"

* "Freeway Industrial Complex"

* Urban transportation reform unlocks "scalable urbanism"

* Housing abundance and reducing car dependency are anti-poverty initiatives
hexel.dallasurbanists.org
* Climate change = more risk of fires, flood, extreme temps = higher ins. premiums = lower affordability

* Don't zone in harms way; educate buyers to account for costs of risk; require resilience in building code

* Reparative: hold oil companies & DOTs liable for actions that increase risk

I've lost count of how many times people notice that @hexel.dallasurbanists.org has a goose and the comments or social media always goes crazy about it.

Pro #publictransit tip: Don’t want to walk the last mile from bus stop in the summer heat? Instead of just deboarding at the closest stop, use the DART GoPass app to find a bus stop with a nearby Lime or Bird scooter.

Did this today—saved 10 minutes and made it to my appointment on time!

"I've gotten so many blank stares at the idea that a street should be a place in its own right."

Central part of @dallasurbanists.org mission is to change the local conversation in Dallas about what a street can and should be.

"Do the next small thing" I need to remind myself this more often, especially as I chip away at applying all the lessons learned from National Gathering.
Group photo of seven Strong Towns National Gathering attendees from North Texas plus Chuck Marohn doing "strong" pose at front steps of Grace Episcopal Church in Providence, Rhode Island.
