A subcanonical instance of Europe's endlessly dying modernism, or its American imitations. ON/NC/ATX/PHL.

"No physician wants to move here, but it's okay: this sody pop is doctor enough for me."

To search deep inside yourself for a way to square the circle and come up with "people are losing their rights".

You can have perfect political instincts but if you can't figure out how to shrug and say "so was YOUR kid in a match against a trans kid?", you are not ready to fight the modern GOP.

It is time to start taking some scalps, Ezra.

Let's force a few resignations at 36%, and I bet before you know it we'll be at 29% and forcing pardons.

The Sylvia affair is also just the most potent - all the Dante stuff, her faith, how impossible it is to avoid her and Arnold - and it lets him vicariously access shame of a kind he rarely feels.

Then that shame coalesces in an instant into a kind he can feel in the first person.

Something about the Sylvia in flagrante delictis scene comes to mind. It's as if he thought he was walking under his own power, when it was his compulsion pushing him in the small of the back all along, and he finally turned and looked at it.

Yeah he's definitely a writer that colors the events around me. I see them and things that would probably have confused me instead amuse me.

We're all just a buncha kooks in uniform dancing until the bomb drops after all.

Pynchon I think is one of the people who can see the invisible string on which the globe dangles, and he has some stern questions for the owner of the great hand that occasionally plucks that string.

Exactly is difficult. Also I'm cribbing that from David Byrne. 😂

There is some revealing symmetry in the book between the parabola of a V2 missile, the math of destruction and creation, the interference of chance, fate, and genetics. That's "gravity's rainbow".

Oh fuck also Sailing to Byzantium, The Waste Land, Dylan Thomas, Howl.

"An aged man is but a paltry thing
a tattered coat upon a stick, unless
soul clap it's hands and sing, and louder sing,
for every tatter in its mortal dress."

Or...

"I celebrate myself and sing myself
And all that I assume you shall assume
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you
I loafe and invite my soul
I lean and loaf at my ease."

Harder with free verse but I think these lines to myself regularly

What is the grass,
The child said to me,
Fetching it to me with full hands.

I suppose it must be the flag of my disposition
Out of hopeful green stuff woven
Or the handkerchief of the Lord
A scented gift designedly dropt
Bearing the owners name in the corners
That we may see and remark "whose?"

Ah shit this is actually correct and now I have to wonder if I have bad taste

About to have some of chad-iest bailiffs and Marshals seen since the Wild West days.

This is the kinda thing that will straight up sink him in 2028 primary if there's anybody running on his left. And there will be.

I also think this is mostly on the grounds that Perry is a total mess and not shy about it.
December 5, 2025 at 2:31 PM
Kinda likes Perry against his better judgment. Still, I think, not 100% down with Perry. Very skeptical about Perry but less than with other white folks.

I think they change that a bit in S2 but that's where I started to drop.

Not the point of your post but this AP headline is like saying the Treaty of Versailles was "favorable" to France.

Didn't say we'd put him in jail this year. But we have to create the appetite for when the deed CAN be done.
December 4, 2025 at 5:47 PM
Cut an ad overlaying it with a headline of Hegseth quoted saying "kill them all" and you've got something that can both get Democrats elected AND put that weasel in jail.
December 4, 2025 at 4:08 PM
That is indeed the point I was making.

The Democratic Brand was associated with Reconstruction and the Klan even when FDR decided he was a Democrat.

He did rather overcome that deficit, even if some parts of the country did not precisely see it as a handicap.
