Can't say that it's surprising. I've never known the police here to enforce traffic safety rules.

I remember VPD last year posted a video on the importance of dressing visibly as a pedestrian, while the video showed a handful of cars not stopping at the crosswalk with no mention of it.

I believe the province is the current barrier to municipalities enacting automated enforcement, putting in speed cameras & red light cameras, etc.

To be fair most of the tall towers are in yaletown and coal harbour, the west end doesnt have many if any skyscrapers.

But that said its a lovely mixed use area that still has many blocks that feel suburban and quiet despite having plenty of population a short walk away from tons of amenities.
