I work in the building trades in BC. I work on O&G projects, pipelines, LNG plants, and in refineries. It pays my bills, provides for my family, and allows us to live a decent life.

Even I don't want another goddamn oil pipeline.

🧵
Canada should be focused on nation-building. Instead we are getting sucked into a needless pipeline war to appease Moe and Danielle Smith.
If the PM tries to kill the tanker ban without consulting BC premier Eby or First Nations he will be in for the fight of his life.
And he will lose.

Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art

No idea why an Afghan refugee shot National Guard soldiers within walking distance of the White House, but this new USCIS directive was revealed on Monday. Worth noting.
The folks at @afghanevac.bsky.social have in hand a new USCIS directive which largely targets Afghan refugees who fled the Taliban in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal in 2021.

In case you needed a reminder that the most loathsome people in the world work for DHS.

So for my majority Non-Canadian followers: the Notwithstanding Clause is a clause in our Charter of Rights and Freedoms (our bill of rights) that basically lets the government go "nuh-uh" to human rights for a period of 5 years...and after five years, you can just...use it again. No cooldown.

Canada doesn’t have a failing healthcare system. It has 10 provincial and 3 territorial healthcare systems and at least 8 of them are being maliciously dismantled by corrupt premiers.

Steal some working class voters from the soon-to-be leaderless CPC; steal from the Liberals some voters who like to be thought of as progressive. Selling out didn’t win a government. A real left party probably can’t get 170 seats, but they could get 70-80. They could be a threat & feel good about it

The right-wing Carney liberals have a near-majority and will be stable for a few years, but their popularity is about to nosedive. The entire terrain of the left is open to the NDP. They can be bold and win back working class voters.

If they are still asking this, they deserve to lose more by-elections and fire more strategists. If you don’t have firm principles, what is the power even for? My whole adult life they’ve faced this choice and picked “power,” and where has it got them?

With its future uncertain, should the NDP pursue power or principles?
After near electoral collapse, should the NDP shift left with bold, systemic proposals, or focus on pragmatic gains and achieving power?

If even the Haisla Nation are opposed, there's zero chance this project ever receives any significant First Nations support.
As I said, to the north coast, nothing has changed on the pipeline. Smith is going to have some work to do if she is going to change hearts and minds.

There's a reason Smith and the UCP are trying to ram through a new pipeline right fuckin' now.

What little business case there may be is quickly evaporating.

Doug Ford *falsely claiming* he has the power to audit his enemies when he doesn’t actually have that power is still a news story

But it’s kind of a different story than one uncritically accepting the premise that the Premier of Ontario can order the federal government to audit his enemies
