"Mama, I heard you crying after my performance!"
"I was cry laughing!!"
"You were loud!"

My girl is the best and I did cry! I'm an incredibly proud mom and everything else is horrible. Gotta soak in the beautiful things.

Thursday still exists! So four days, but it will also be the dawn of a new reality, where some schools will be partially empty and teachers spread more thinly.
If you're playing at home, this means that SPPS will be missing an entire week of school.
My kid's field trip to the arboretum got canceled. Luckily, it was on the day of the general strike so keeping her home that day will be easier.

This is St Paul, too. The kids are hurting, and parents are struggling as well.
This is Minneapolis:

Weekly school newsletters includes: "Our community is facing so much grief, fear and confusion" & "stay safe this weekend."

Annual school community events are cancelled. Field trips cancelled.

Standardized testing is happening now, but kids trapped at home can't be tested.

every single successful general strike in US history has had union backing through the local AFL-CIO

this is the first time it’s been called for since the 1940s

If I die in the cold in St Paul, at least I'll be dripped out in Jags gear.

These clowns came into OUR neighborhoods with THEIR violent riots and violent gas and violent flash bangs.

Get out with that crap.
The 6-month-old that DHS is tweeting about here lived in the neighborhood and the baby’s father was just trying to evacuate his family after federal agents had shot someone.

Imagine standing on a freezing corner in broad daylight in a high visibility vest while paramilitary goons cruise by you in droves. It's terrifying. We're alone out there. SPPD officers passed me yesterday- refused to make eye contact.
I have a colleague telling me he and his neighbors have had to form volunteer patrol squads to protect children as they go to and from school with zero assistance from anyone in authority?

Surely there's options between all out war with the federal government and "play nice out there!"

The city is bumping, the whistles are blowing, everybody looks good. There is much pain in the world but not in this room.
Bro, people are going to build entire lives around the neighbors they’ve found in these anti-ICE signal chats. Marriages, lifelong friendships, weird hobbies. It is actually breaking my brain. I am almost crying in the club (chat).

Also us living in poverty don't have passports! They are like $195 a piece! 🥴
I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.

And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.”

Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

Went to the World Snow Sculpting Championship in Stillwater. Seeing art, especially impermanent art, from sculptors all over the world is inspiring. Reminds me of what we're fighting for. (I'm partial to the all women team from Aotearoa)

Don't tread on *me* personally, but I'll tread on others happily. Rules for thee and all that.
So, if I'm following all this correctly, a bunch of internet shitposters who spent years screaming "don't tread on me" and warning about federal agents stomping out people's rights... have been hired as ICE agents to go around breaking into people's homes, kidnapping & shooting them

Ate lunch at El Burrito on the west side and gave out whistles/zines at the Girl Scouts office. Every. Little. Thing. Matters.

good thing she hasn’t seen the average Minnesotan at this point. I don’t know about you guys, but I feel like hell warmed over.
I’ve now seen videos from both the mayor of Minneapolis and the governor Tim Walz, and both of them look like they have not slept in weeks
Frey: "This is not sustainable. This is an impossible situation our city is being put in. We cannot be at a place in America where we have 2 governmental agencies literally fighting one another. We are put in this position b/c we have approximately 600 police officers & there are 3,000 ICE agents."
