You may have heard that Giannandrea's retirement is the result of multiple failures leaving Apple behind in AI. While that's the easy story to tell, it isn't the right one.

Here's why Gianandrea's work at Apple has secured its future in AI by making on-device a priority.
For reference, for men aged 25 to 29 in the Navy, we were required to do 38 push ups, 50 sit ups (replaced with planks in 2020 apparently), and a mile and a half in under 13:45. These ICE recruit numbers are closer to what's required for a 55 year old male to pass.

Just sad.
This is good to know:

"The test requires recruits to do 15 push-ups, 32 sit-ups, and run 1.5 miles in 14 minutes or less — but over one-third of them have failed, officials said."
The Trump administration wants to deploy 10,000 new officers by January — but more than one-third of new recruits can’t seem to pass a certain test.

As a former Navy Nuke I have to say this is one of the dumbest things anyone could ever say abut nuclear power.

Rickover's whole thing was human intervention and minimal automation. Deviating from that concept will mean catastrophic failure.

I trust the operators. AI can't do this job.

The people in power demand fealty, Cook does the bare minimum and convinces them he's doing the most. It's quite the power play.

Newsom sucks for a lot of reasons, but I do like how he is handling that particular idiot in office.

If this article makes you angry, you're welcome.

Depending on who you are, this is either the best news for Apple fans or the worst news for Apple.

Either way, it doesn't matter. Apple has never been one person, and while Dye has had some odd choices in the past decade, I think his legacy has been overall fine.

Let's see if Liquid Glass lasts.

I wish you nerds would make up your mind. Either you hate Liquid Glass and wish Alan Dye would leave Apple, or you're calling his departure an unprecedented coup.

You can't have both.

My feelings: Dye has spent 10 years designing at Apple and is ready for a real challenge -- making Meta look good.

Spotify is the worst thing to ever happen to music, and now they openly accept money from and promote domestic terrorists on their platform.

Cancel Spotify, there are better options. Apple Music has been the better platform for years.

They've been working towards this for a while now. Will be interesting to see how this new organization handles AI.

It's a big ship to steer, so don't expect changes to the immediate pipeline that was already coming in early 2026.

The core of the problem is people don't see these things as inherently political. They're not affected by genocide incited by Facebook, eating disorders caused by Instagram, or resource scarcity caused by AI. A few are, but a vast majority is not.

They think we're weird for not liking them.
this is a bluesky bubble opinion. 800M+ people use chatgpt every week. I hate Facebook and Instagram and I wish they didn’t exist, but 3B and 2B people use them every month, respectively. it’s very hard to picture a mass or even a niche left backlash against them
i think tech and ai positive people are going to be in for a big shock when anti tech and anti ai sentiment becomes a major part of leftwing politics going forward especially as datacenters continue to destroy communities and raise electricity bills
