tried to get Claude Code to help me prioritize work and clean up my todo list, but there wasn’t enough context in the todo list alone, so I started writing daily notes, and it turns out that was the thing I actually needed to start doing. rare win for the ol’ noggin

It's near-white out conditions in Chicago as the snow comes down, and tonight's anti-ICE/CBP rally is wrapping up in front of city hall.

But not before the crowd bounces and chants, "I believe that we will win!"

Georgia Fort, an independent journalist and vice president of the Minnesota NABJ chapter, was also arrested by federal agents this morning

I was sent this video of agents at her door:

NEW: An average worker at the foreign factories that make Nike’s goods earns 1.9 times the local minimum wage, the company says.

None of the workers @oregonian.com spoke with in Nike’s second-largest production hub said they earned that much.

I was so completely flabbergasted by this article that I wrote a lengthy email to NCMEC about it, telling them to fix their CyberTipline reporting form whose UX enabled a huge overstatement of the scale of the AI-CSAM problem to go uncorrected for 6 months.

A Minnesota woman observing ICE agents in her car was cornered on one-way streets. An agent approached, called her by name—citing facial recognition. Days later, her Global Entry and TSA privileges were revoked, with no explanation.

I cannot tell you how much doubt was consistently directed at the Gaza Health Ministry’s casualty numbers and how much pressure was put on news organizations to couch those numbers as unreliable.

Biden himself said they were fabricated!

For reference, Minneapolis's "Metro Surge" was 25x larger than Chicago's Midway Blitz - ten times as many agents in a city almost a third the size.

The Springfield metro is only 136,000 people. A 1000-agent surge will be the equivalent of TWO HUNDRED MIDWAY BLITZES at once. Utter insanity.

I know all eyes are on Minneapolis, but there's a fast-approaching nightmare in Springfield, Ohio.

Trump is revoking protected status for tens of thousands of Haitians living there on Feb. 3.

Reportedly, on Feb. 4, 1000 ICE agents are arriving to remove this population. Ethnic cleansing.

This is right. Read down to where he explains why verification is not actually an intractable problem outside code. Just completely right. Tell your friends and give them a 4-month head start.
realized why I'm so confident LLM agents will blow up outside coding soon: when agents code, very little of what they do is actually coding. it’s almost all research and analysis that applies directly to any knowledge work. the key is verification signal, but even that problem is overstated

mamdani is the only one showing how to thread the needle on popular politics aimed at expanding state capacity and efficient provision of services
I will simply never recover from reading this sentence:

"Since Georgia implemented work requirements in 2020, they have spent twice as much on Deloitte consultants and administrative costs as on healthcare for people."
Today, Luke Farrell (@lukef.bsky.social) explains how complex eligibility requirements have turned America’s safety net into a lucrative revenue stream for monopolistic private contractors.

can’t say enough good things about this. it begins by taking LLMs seriously as a general-purpose technology and moves to a great analysis of the factions and lines of cleavage within the tech industry, which can’t be exploited if you deny they’re there. this is the materialist critique we need!
