If you're as fond of library facts as me then there are some great ones in this @londonist.com article londonist.com/london/histo... (thanks to @librariannb.bsky.social for the link!) London librarians should use the 1st public library opening here on March 10th as an excuse for an annual party.

Even if I didn’t have a personal interest in librarians, I would be urging all of you with access to iPlayer to watch this documentary www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis... It’s about the censorship of books in US school libraries but also about how right wing money, not facts, is influencing politics.
Storyville - The Librarians
A Storyville documentary that explores how librarians across the US are risking their safety to defend free speech as book bans and censorship threaten democracy from within.

Currently on my way to the picket line for what looks like it’s going to be the first of 10 days of strikes over the next two months. We are asking for a pay rise that will give us the equivalent of what we were paid in 2018. #iclstrike

This also isn’t true!!! There is a public consultation NOW OPEN and you can go have your say. Obviously they want to present it as a done deal but it’s not.

'Five years after having their first child, mums' earnings drop by an average of £1,051 a month compared with their salary one year before having a child.

But let's put that one into the "too hard to deal with" box and instead propose ICE-style arrests of migrants to grab the headlines.
True cost of becoming a mum highlighted in new data on pay
New figures reveal mums in England see their earnings drop after having a first, second and third child.

The government want more coercive powers for the state against protests, and the main opposition party wants more coercive powers for the state against migrants.

Our political-media culture continues in a loop where the response to every perceived problem is yet more coercive powers for the state.

I'll say it again. Our horror at the Gaza genocide and at the atrocity in Manchester comes in both cases from the same, inherent part of our shared humanity. We need to assert that shared humanity in the face of both these evils as loudly as possible, and in as many practical ways as we can.

NEW: Home secretary Shabana Mahmood urges pro-Palestine protesters to consider not taking part in marches this weekend.

The idea that being a refugee is somehow a “golden ticket” is genuinely awful. These are people who the government have recognised are in need of protection. Do they think people chose that? That that’s what people wanted?

⚠️ Chinese researchers have invented bone glue that mimics how oysters stick to surfaces underwater.

The adhesive can reportedly repair orthopedic fractures in 2-3 minutes, even in blood-rich environments, and is bioabsorbable.

It’s always good to have a diverse group of friends. Especially if it means that some of them can buy you Super Furry Animals gig tickets while you’re teaching a library induction! Plus it sounds like it was a right palaver this morning so double thanks to those people!

It isn't international law which is the issue. It is politicians like Starmer demonising migrants and stripping them off rights.

When you start talking about reducing access to rights for one group you open the door for someone else to end them for others.

Had a lovely night out watching the documentary ‘Strange Journey: the story of Rocky Horror’ with intro and q&a from director Linus O’Brien. Also on stage Richard Hartley (music) Belinda Sinclair (original Janet) and Sue Blane (costumes.) A great celebration of the play, film, cast and cult.

The "Brit Card". Could they make it any more dogwhistly?
Also, fundamentally ignores that undocumented workers already, drum roll please, lack documents. Adding another one makes little difference, but does make it harder for people to escape exploitation.

There’s so much wrong here, it’s hard to know where to begin. But you can start by reading Angie’s brilliant book and giving it to every teen you know. Nothing like a fragile middle aged white man to point you inadvertently to quality literature.

We're getting some detail of the trafficking claim

The man says he was a victim of forced Labour in Ethiopia, and was not paid for 2 years while farming in the desert and was shot by his employer

The Home Office said it was an "employment dispute" and shooting was not "menace" to force labour
