I deal with this disapproval all day. She's an old lady so has earned the right to whichever cushion she chooses but the disapproval is a lot.

I also have fish that nibble my finger and a couple of apple snails that eat a tank full of chickweed in about 4 days.

A curious perimenopausal symptom is I've gone all the way off garlic but have started drinking strong tea.

A beautiful, unimaginably soft blanket (probably will be work as a scarf in my world) in blues, pinks, greys and a touch of green. A stack of little treats - and navy envelope with a white panel that says 'random flower seeds - scatter in spring', a block of hiney nougat Whittaker's chocolate, a deck of art deco inspired playing cards, a copy of Dear Moko by Dr Hinemoa Elder and the inside of the card that accompanied the gifts.

One of my jobs released an extremely amazing project today. It has been my baby for nearly a year and releasing it to the world is as nervewracking as letting my actual children go.
A photo of a cookbook called Familiar Foods: Treats of Aotearoa. It has a light background with teaspoons of spices (from foreground at the bottom to background at the top chilli flakes, saffron, turmeric, himalayan salt, paprika, cardamom and ground black pepper). There's a clip on the side because this is actually the proof copy and the pages are loose.

I stopped mowing my lawns pre-pandemic and have a garden full of birds and bugs. But also there is an inner city apartment in my near future.

I have an elderly cat and some fish with great personality. I am also mother to two lovely men in their 20s.

This dear little friend took herself off to her big sleep today after a few uncomfortable days. Little creatures are so trusting and it's a bit shit when you can't make them feel better.

Large grey rabbit under a woodburner with flames glowing behind the glass. Her ears are forward and her nose is nearly touching the firebrush and shovel in an offended sort of way. Same large grey rabbit snuggled up in a duvet on the bed where she is *not* supposed to be. A head, shoulders and ears shot from above of that rabbit sneaking the cat's food. No one told her rabbits are vegetarian but apparently cat biscuits are delicious. The poor elderly cat had to learn to jump up onto the freezer to find her food. Large grey rabbit snuggled firmly between two fluffy pink cushions on the coucb. Her flat ears indicate deep comfort. You can see in this picture that she has quite a large tummy and very soft fur.

This beautiful tree is full of happy bees, both bumble and regular. It also has tūī and korimako zooming in and out of it.

It's one of two at the front of my section that were a house-warming present from my parents 13 (14?) years ago. My sister had grown them from seed.

This Rarotongan rupe had very perfect white eyeliner and was extremely greedy with these berries. The bulge was visible almost all the way to its tummy.

If you see this, post a bird.
A rupe (wood pigeon) on a branch of palm berries. Its shovelling a whole berry about 2/3 the size of its head into its beak. Its head and neck are pale grey and the rest is dark grey. The sky behind it is blue with some dreamy white clouds.

Not a beautiful photo but I'm quite proud of these little friends.

Wrapping dumplings is meditative - lots of time to think about how food is so similar and so different across cultures. And also delicious.
A black cooling rack on a stainless steel bench has 11 green zongzi on it. They are sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves and tied with grass. They're supposed to be pyramids but are more like triangle adjacent.

Update:
A cornerwise photo of 201 drones lit up purple and laid out in beautifully straight rows at night on a black ground. My camera is pretty bad so it captured their purple glow with lots of diffusion.
