order of made-up medical conditions Rod Liddle Do you ever have one of those moments when a sense of existential despair grabs hold of you and you suddenly forget where you are, what you are supposed to be doing and why you are crouching at the end of the high street in army fatigues holding a crossbow? I have that sort of sensation every so often and always put it down to the chill grey wraith of incipient senility wrapping its fingers around my cerebral cortex and squeezing tight. But equally it could be something hipper than that, something much more 2026. I am talking about trans global amnesia (TGA). Now, this isn’t the mystifying condition afflicting prominent liberals who are suddenly unable to remember how to define a woman. There’s another word for that condition, but we probably shouldn’t go there right now. The “trans” in this case stands for transient, not transgender. It refers to the sudden and surprising loss of short-term memory as described in my opening sentence, plus a feeling of agitation and anxiety, and is supposedly occasioned by exertion, stress or even, uh, rapid changes in temperature. It made its glorious debut in an industrial tribunal last week which concerned itself with the sacking of a man called Peter Duffy, a “host” working on LNER trains. Mr Duffy had been cashiered by the company for having served up to first-class passengers reheated sausage rolls which he had retrieved from the rubbish bin.

The Richmond Project, a charity set up by Rishi Sunak, the former prime minister, and his wife Akshata Murty, will publish its first major piece of research tomorrow, which shows the worrying gender gap. Murty said: “Our survey has shown, if they are parents, women tend to struggle more with helping children with their maths homework compared to men. And so that goes on and on. “There is this anxiety that women feel more so than men. I’m not saying men don’t feel it at all, but women tend to feel it more and that translates intergenerationally. If a young girl sees her mother feeling anxious then she subconsciously buys into that anxiety. So I think that’s how that cycle goes on and on.” She said she was lucky to have had strong role models in Stem (science, technology, engineering and maths) from an early age. Her mother, Sudha Murty, trained as an engineer, and her aunts were “science people’”, she said. The survey found 51 per cent of boys aged four to eight thought maths was “easy” compared with 41 per cent of girls. This gap widened over time: 86 per cent of boys aged 9 to 18 said they were confident at maths compared with 63 per cent of girls. While girls and boys perform similarly in maths at Year 6 SATs, GCSEs and A- levels, girls are significantly less likely to choose to study it. In 2024-25, girls accounted for only 37 per cent of A-level maths entrants. Murty, 45, said girls who lacked confidence in maths could be less likely to engage in everyday responsibilities.

In an interview with the LGBTQIA+ magazine Attitude, she complains: “It’s your Ricky Gervaises [and] Jimmy Carrs… To those boys, I’d say, with respect, shut the f--- up.” Of course, if you yourself happen to be a “privileged cis white straight man”, you may be wondering whether these strictures also apply to you, and the jokes you tell. I rather fear that they do. But don’t fret. Because, in the same interview, Ms Jones graciously provides us with her expert advice on “how to tell a joke responsibly”. (What a wonderful phrase. It sounds like the warning on a bottle of alcohol. “Please joke responsibly. Laugh in moderation. The Chief Medical Officer recommends you do not exceed 14 smiles a week. Remember: humour can kill.”) Anyway, on to that essential guide. “Before you tell a joke,” Ms Jones instructs us, “you need to analyse it, and that comes down to three things. First: who are you? Do you have lived experience, or experience close to you?” If I’ve understood correctly, this means you’re not permitted to make jokes at the expense of people who are different from you. So, for example, Messrs Gervais and Carr should not be making jokes about trans women, because they themselves don’t have “lived experience” of being trans women. True enough. On the other hand, they do both have “lived experience” of being male – just like all trans women. Does that not qualify them? And, while we’re at it, does the above rule mean that, if you yourself are not a “cis white straight man”, you’re not allowed to make fun of cis white straight men? He has made no such statement nor expressed any such opinion. In fact, the statement was made by another person who had previously appeared on BBC Arabic. We apologise to Mr Munro for this error and are happy to correct the record.

The controversial LGBT group’s income fell from £6.9million in 2024 to £4.7million in the last financial year, accounts show, but spending of £5.6million left it with a net deficit of £906,362. This put its ‘total funds’ in reserve at just £91,811 in March 2025 – down from £998,173 only 12 months earlier. The group received £1.8million in fees for its contentious diversity awards schemes – which rated workplaces’ LGBT inclusion levels – down from £2.4million in 2024, after a host of big names began distancing themselves amid concerns over Stonewall’s radical stance on trans rights. Corporation donations also fell to £143,149 in 2025, down from £348,636 in 2024. Stonewall said it received £454,645 in grants from ‘government sources’ but did not include any details. In its previous annual report, the figure was £618,757. The charity was co-founded in 1989 by actors Sir Ian Mckellen and Michael Cashman, among others, and won a string of victories ‘Implosion of a woke racket’ for gay rights, including legalising same-sex marriage. But in recent years it vociferously campaigned for trans rights – lobbying the NHS, police and Whitehall to introduce ‘inclusive’ policies and genderneutral language. John O’connell, of the Taxpayers’ Alliance, said last night: ‘This is a spectacular implosion of a taxpayer-propped woke racket that is finally running out of other people’s money.’

Eight men and two women aged 41 to 60 received sentences ranging from four to eight months’ suspended imprisonment, with one defendant also handed a six-month custodial sentence. That prison term was imposed on property manager Jean-christophe P., 65, who was convicted in absentia after failing to appear at the hearing, according to the court in Paris. The remaining defendants were found guilty of “intentionally harming the plaintiff ” through “malicious, degrading and insulting” messages referring to her alleged paedophilia, said Thierry Donnard, the presiding judge. He added that the sustained online attacks constituted cyber bullying and had led to “a deterioration of her physical and mental health”. Mrs Macron, who married Emmanuel Macron in 2007, did not attend the two-day trial, which took place in October. During the case, Aurélien Poirson-atlan, 41, a prolific social media agitator known online as Zoé Sagan, continued to denounce what he described as a “shocking state secret involving state-sanctioned paedophilia”. He received an eight-month suspended sentence. His X account was suspended last year after being cited in several judicial investigations. Eight months on from a landmark judgment that trans women are not women under equalities law, HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) has still not updated its rules on the use of ladies’ facilities. Its operations director told Sex Matters, the women’s rights group, that it was “reviewing relevant internal policies” but would not change anything until guidance was published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). Maya Forstater, the Sex Matters chief executive, said it was “absurd” that of all public bodies, the courts were flouting the ruling and putting women at risk of “finding themselves in an enclosed space alongside men who identify as trans”. The EHRC pointed out that the English courts should, along with other public bodies, be following the law even Many public bodies, including the NHS, have refused to update their guidance though the Government was refusing to publish its guidance. In April the Supreme Court ruled that the word “sex” in the Equality Act refers to biological sex and not a person’s gender identity. The EHRC published interim guidance soon afterwards to say that public bodies should bar trans people from the toilets of their opposite sex. It submitted its final guidance to equalities minister Bridget Phillipson, who is also Education Secretary, but she has so far refused to publish it. In the meantime, many public bodies, including the NHS, have refused to update their guidance, saying they are waiting for the EHRC. In October, women’s rights campaigners attended the Royal Courts of Justice to oppose an attempt to overturn the commission’s interim guidance. By then he was touting his ideology of “Chavismo” around the globe. As the strongman of Central America, his brand of Left-wing populism was all the rage in the salons of Islington. In 2006 Red Ken welcomed this bombastic bolshie to City Hall and was promptly invited for a lavish return visit to Caracas. The following year, the mayor announced that his chum colonel Chavez had promised to supply cheap oil to Transport for London, which would fund half-price tube and bus fares. Livingstone’s bid to bribe voters with largesse looted from impoverished Venezuelans failed to deter Londoners from replacing him with Boris Johnson.

It is hoped that the new powers for law enforcement agencies will speed up investigations and come after the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Act became law last month. Alex Norris, the border security minister, said: “These operational measures sit alongside sweeping reforms to the system, to make it less attractive for migrants to come here illegally and remove and deport people faster.” Last year, 41,472 migrants arrived in the UK after crossing the Channel, the second highest figure ever. Chris Philp , the shadow home secretary, said that Labour had confined itself to “cosmetic tweaks” and that there was no deterrent to those crossing the Channel. Instead, he pressed for quitting the European Convention on Human Rights in order to take effective action, which Labour has rejected. The new law also introduces new criminal offences such as up to 14 years in jail for storing or supplying boat engines to bring migrants across the Channel. Smugglers downloading maps to find departure points for small boats or researching the best places to buy equipment for the dinghies could face up to five years in prison.
