There's also been a frenzy of activity around leasing in the Powder River Basin as well as the East Coast. But some great brains watching the markets explain how much coal is already locked up, what challenges persist: “I do not think there will be a rush to lease new reserves."

There's a LOT Of hype around the demand for energy re data centers. But Brendan Pierpont at Energy Innovation, said he long-term structural decline persists:

“These are older, less economic clunkers, essentially, and … it’s pretty clear that economics there are going to be a limiting factor.”

Finally taking some time off and heading up to Isle Royale next week to trek through the wilderness -- putting packs on our two boys, 9 and 5 :)

Would love to hear stories if you've been there!

And yes, I've prepared as much as possible - black flies, heat, sea sickness, rain, you name it!

I asked GAO what happens with this report: "This decision does not take a position on the policy goals of the program. Changes to these policies and priorities can be addressed through the legislative process with Congress and the Administration."
hmnorthey.bsky.social
GAO in recent testimony acknowledged that it has opened 39 impoundment investigations, and the report released Thursday marks the first decision in those probes.

Former Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-Fla.) concerned about Zeldin overturning the endangerment finding.

'He understands climate science ... he understands that the agency has a role in addressing all of that'
hmnorthey.bsky.social
Some Long Island groups accuse Zeldin of being a 'political chameleon,' others say he's playing to constituents and relishing being a 'Trump disruptor.'

'Write his name down, because he’s going to run for governor, he’s going to run for president, he’s a very ambitious man.'

NOAA’s office of Oceanic Atmospheric Research has had IT and other support contracts canceled in the last day or so that will fundamentally affect its operation. One source there said “It will seriously hurt our ability to improve weather forecasting and climate projections.”

“To state this plainly: DOGE forced out the directors and staff of a nonexecutive agency, installed one of its own GSA staffers as president, and that person is now attempting to hand the institute’s $500 million headquarters over to the agency he came from, at zero cost.”

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.

Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.
