I don't advocate for minimalism, as the Lord (and anyone who has followed me for more than a dozen minutes) knows, but everything you add to a viz adds work to your readers, and if you make your readers work (I do! it's fun and good!) you gotta make it worth their while.

It seems fair to me. It's pretty team-friendly if age/injury can be staved off, but then that's the risk that brings down the dollar figure, I guess.

I don't know, truly; I don't have a contract value model. I suspect perhaps it might be, since the finishing value specifically can be effectively multiplied with deployment.

And then there's the ingenuous reticence to ask "what would you expect" about the data itself, which is the most fundamental q for any viz. Would you expect reporting time about death to be unaffected by circumstance, as if manner of death were meaningless, as implicit here?

This kind of over-annotation is grating. It's not enough to title the things, somehow we need additional, longer titles on top of the first titles? And meaningless arrows to boot. Like being followed around by a shopkeeper, so eager that you'll find something to buy that they won't leave you alone.

Does the news reflect what we die from?
The image presents a comparison of the leading causes of death in the United States for 2023 and the media coverage these causes receive from three news outlets: The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Fox News.

In the footer, it notes the data sources, indicating that the information is based on media mentions from Media Cloud (2025) and death data from the US CDC (2025) and the Global Terrorism Index, with a clarification that values are normalized to sum to 100%.

I don't know off the top of my head - it's a fun sort of trivia thing to chase down some day.

Mattias Ekholm (3x4m extension with Edmonton) is a top-pair defender.

Kyle Connor (8x12m extension with Winnipeg) is a shoot-first skater who shoots often, and well, from the right circle.

It's more fraught than it might be because many people v. sensibly believe that they oughtn't to need to learn how to do this. It's very hard to teach students who begin from resentment, still worse when the resentment has some real grounding.

I have a third tall one to match them on the other side of the room. The hexagonness of it all delights me.

I am very fond. I could use a few more screens though.
