(2/2) Several OR cities are dealing with this due to property tax compression from taxes passed in the 90s, but no other city of Salem’s size in OR has even THOUGHT about shuttering their libraries. City Manager and Council seem all for funding the cops though!!

This is a continuation of the saga from last year, when we were saved at the last second by the then-mayor. (1/2)

Trump has deployed active military to help round up migrants and put them into detention camps.

The military forced us out of our homes at gunpoint in 1942 because we were considered possibly disloyal Americans. They sent us to internment camps for four years.

History is repeating. Pay attention.

Trump mistakes Spain for a member of the BRICS bloc and repeats the threat of massive tariffs
U.S. president Donald Trump has apparently confused Spain for a member of the BRICS bloc of developing economies, causing some head-scratching and jitters over possible tariffs in Madrid.

The U.S. stockmarket falls both when:
1. The U.S. announces new tariffs (dark blue bars)
2. Other countries announce retaliatory tariffs (light blue and gray bars)
We lose both on the punch and counterpunch.

The price of eggs in the US is spiking, mostly due to #H5N1 bird flu. Solving the problem requires urgent, important communications from the CDC & FDA* and rapid development of research by the NIH**

Egg prices are soaring again. Here’s why and what to expect

NO

I haven't seen anyone
I don't know
Fuck off

Mockler: What message would you have for Trump?

Warren: Live up to your promise. You ran for office saying you were going to make life better—well then, do it. Renaming the Gulf of Mexico, pardoning people who beat up police officers—that’s not making life better for everyday Americans.

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
