Thanks to all speakers and everyone who attended an energizing discussion!

As David Smith MP said in his wrap up, it's now time to harness that energy towards ending homelessness.

We hope Ministers take the opportunity to do so in the new Homelessness Strategy
Left to right: David Smith MP, Fiona Colley, Director of Social Change at Homeless Link and Darren Murinas, CEO of Expert Citizens. They are holding a campaign placard from Homeless Link which reads 'We are Breaking the cycle'

David Smith MP identifies a consistent theme: it's time to combine the moral mission of ending homelessness with the fiscal necessity of getting this right.

Darren from @expertcitizens.bsky.social: When I first left prison, my cell was better than the accommodation I moved in to.

When I moved somewhere better, it improved my mental and physical health, and gave me a stable base. It made me want to avoid going back to prison.

@fionacolley.bsky.social from @homelesslink.bsky.social: Our members have worked hard to make emergency accommodation welcoming, but too often residents only option to move on is a lower-quality and more expensive private rental

Darren from @expertcitizens.bsky.social : How can we end rough sleeping when, once again, all funding ends in March?
homelesslink.bsky.social
But lack of affordable housing supply and Local Housing Allowance rates a real problem. We can get people into temporary accommodation, but we can't support them to move on as nowhere to go
homelesslink.bsky.social
Ed Hume, Cabinet Member of Housing Milton Keynes City Council: Ending rough sleeping is about more than a roof - that's why we've moved it into adult services portfolio.
homelesslink.bsky.social
Paul Dolan, Riverside CEO, emphasies the importance of permanence: we need to support to stay in their homes and transition from temporary to permeant accommodation without needing to constantly move around

Live from our 'how to end homelessness and rough sleeping' panel w/ @labourhousinggroup.bsky.social

On new Homelessness Strategy, @homelesslink.bsky.social's @fionacolley.bsky.social urges 'real cross-government accountability, not a strategy that sits on a shelf.'

The upcoming Homelessness Strategy is a chance to end the costly cycle of crisis that has led to record levels of homelessness.

Our new Breaking the Cycle briefing sets out a 4 point plan to end this emergency and start building a country free from homelessness 👇

homeless.org.uk/news/homeles...
Ask 1: Make ending homelessness the responsibility of all Government departments. Ask 2: Build a funding system that works to end homelessness. Ask 3: Address the homelessness emergency and protect support services from closure. Ask 4: Within ten years, deliver system-wide transformation to enable a country free from homelessness.

With 63 other expert organisations, we’ve written to Government to strongly oppose the sudden reduction in the asylum accommodation move-on period for newly recognised refugees.

Scrap policy that gives refugees with leave to remain 28 days to find housing, say UK groups
Halving time asylum seekers have to leave Home Office accommodation will make thousands homeless at time when ‘racist sentiment’ is on the rise

We all have a role to play in keeping each other safe. @homelesslink.bsky.social shared practical ways you can help this summer — from offering water to knowing when to call for support 💭

We’re backing the @homelesslink.bsky.social #BreakingTheCycle campaign for a fairer funding system for homelessness services. Tomorrow is the Comprehensive Spending Review, when Government will set spending priorities for the next few years.
