A problem in posting generally is whenever a post gets traction people assume you spent an hour meticulously crafting it and thinking of all potential issues with your point instead of the real situation where you were drunk and had eaten an entire pizza and randomly went “fuck fire extinguishers!!”

Yes. This is the real story here. Musk/Twitter/X are part of this, integrated into this story in several ways (e.g. through the so-called “Twitter files”) But what’s happened is that the platforms are running scared from moderation. As academic researchers are running up 7-figure legal bills.
I understand the framing around Twitter, but I think that misses the real thrust of this story: The Republican efforts to paint any anti-disinformation efforts as censorship have wildly succeeded. These platforms are doing risk management. www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...
