I was sent to ASG in 2023 for my knee replacement. The surgical team was great, but I was in and out so fast it made my head spin; I remember wondering if volume and quick turnover were how they made their money, given they were supposedly receiving the same funding as public facilities. Oops.

How else was he supposed to go Christmas shopping? My late cat used to tuck my debit card under her collar and sally forth to the shops; in retrospect, I probably shouldn't have given her my PIN.

I miss biking to work every day (especially during COVID, when I had the social distancing lane on Jasper Ave largely to myself), walking around the Leg. at lunch, grabbing dinner at the late lamented Sobeys on 104th, meeting DH after work to skate at City Hall.

When we first moved into our home, we began manually clearing our overgrown gravel driveway. Given that herbicides and fertilizers are banned in our location, I was bemused by the number of people who stopped to tell us that we should really just be dumping a few gallons of Roundup on the weeds.

A few years ago, there was a string of home invasions in my rural AB county. In every instance, the invaders specifically targeted places that were known to have guns they wanted to steal. So many people buying a gun for protection seem to forget it can be used against them.

A friend whose cancer has recurred was denied the first round of administration to immune-compromised people because she doesn’t resume chemo until 2026, so she wasn’t in active treatment. She still got it free of charge because of her age, but she had to be vulnerable for an additional month.
