Honestly I think in the beginning it’s the platonic love that Emerson has for his bestie, Iris, and that he is comfortable with strong women pushing him around.

A great read and its short! Highly recommend

I just know I don’t have this one in my cute baseball romance but the inkling beginnings of a WIP (shiny object syndrome) would have a vibe because a MC’s family member is incarcerated so

Love this premise!

I used to say as a kid “I hate books where it’s just like a camping/hiking trip” because this was sooo common in everything I read. But maybe it’s ok if it’s Forest of Plot

Just finished Familiar by @cara.ink ! Highly recommend for a fun spooky season read that still tackles important themes. Comes out October 28th - pre order here: buy.bookfunnel.com/mg9vkxdvh0

He’s kind of ready, but takes it reaaaalllly slowly because it’s not the being in a relationship he’s scared of, it’s how his mom will react - which doesn’t have to happen right away. He needs to care so much about this girl it tips the balance where it’s worth it, which happens over time.

8. What are some potential reasons the main character(s) haven't, couldn't, and/or can't pursue these goals yet? Consider other characters, backstory events, circumstances, environmental factors, etc.

Remember: Use the #PlotTober hashtag, engage with others, and have fun!

It’s a college romance set in the Hudson Valley of New York in the fall semester. Emerson is a baseball player and he pursues Valeria, the girl in his group project. Emerson has some mommy issues to overcome though if he wants to have an actual relationship lol

Can’t decide what to buy on Prime Day?

Try: absolutely nothing, and then go support indie bookstores instead 📚

From the sequel - seeing how the MMC rises to the “pinch” of the story. This section needs a lot of work but I’m excited to dig in and rework after alpha feedback!
My gut wrenches. I can’t solve the hurt she’s feeling, but at least I can be there for her, hold her, and let her know she’s safe and loved as long as she’s with me.

“Some rules are a bit more flexible than others” sooo much indicted in that line!

This is a lovely passage!

It’s a romance so if the main characters were out of commission we just wouldn’t see that story, but the MMC is on a baseball team so if he was injured or something some side characters there would play in his place!

I’ve loved meeting critique partners on this platform! And I hope to support fellow writers by buying their work - but $$ that will come from my corporate job - but I’ll never be able to leave corporate if I don’t have a place to sell my work at scale.

Totally. I started a Bluesky to build an audience to sell a forthcoming book and I think all of my followers are fellow writers. Who are also readers, but if they’re trying to get trad published then they’re reading trad published stuff for comps… so not so useful for indies

I had to write them down! I have 0 myself and I was stressing over placement for a fictional character lol

This section really resonated for me when I read it! Gets to such deep relatable feelings that can be hard to verbalize externally in a world that tells us to just be grateful for any privilege we have - lot of nuance there
hopeengel.com
Absolutely - I learned so much about my characters by starting with vibes but having the basics down and it was more fun along the way!

I did! Next up: take new photo that’s less of my face lol

This is a good one! Emerson finds it straightforward to cry when grieving because sadness at death is socially acceptable. He doesn’t grieve in this story but lightly references it when discussing his grandfather’s passing which happened a year+ prior to the start.

All basic biographical information, their immediate family for the main character(s), socioeconomic status, area of study or occupation, motivations, and some general likes or dislikes plus a mental map of the setting - where do characters live in relation to one another.
